To the SSRM + Artemis. IT DOES WORK! It's not documented anywhere, so it may be a bug or a simple laziness from the devs, but the lock on mechanic is the same for LRM and SSRM. Since LRM get faster lock, so do SSRM.

In that case: CTF-4X {2 LBX-AC/10+SSRM2+2MPLAS STD 250}
or CTF-4X {2 LBX-AC/10+SSRM2+2MPLAS+AC/2 XL 255}

yeah, my 4x build used as brawl support is very similar, with 2 lb10s, 2 machineguns, an SRM 4 and 3 med lasers..proven a very effective critical hunter supporting something like an atlas or a stalker.

Before I sold my 4X (the 1X is my varient of choice), I was running two UAC-5, 2 M Pulse and an LRM-5. I enjoyed the Dakkaphract, but the jamming got old. But you can run that varient with almost no upgrades. Then again, this was at a time when I was dealing with repair costs, so some upgrades could greatly improve my old 4X design.

Finding a perch and gunning down folks who aren't paying attention is key.

I had a light mech who received Artemis and had 2 SSRMs and it didn't work, there is no logical, balance, lore, TT, ingame indication what you said is true.

I got twin gauss, twin medlasers and a pair of MG's to use as 'tracers' to aid gauss brawling if someone wants to get in under 180m. Mount XL, use it to run away.
Pray not get mugged by sneaky 'rats'.

The 4X would be pretty sweet if that ridiculous missile HP was in LT instead of head.

.. I think the Artemis does actually work on the SSRM lock on time. I was a complete skeptic until about 15mins ago, I had read this thread and heard a couple other people say it does, but I've been like pfft no. Of course it doesn't work. But then I remembered PGI was involved.... so I went about testing this theory out. It shouldn't work imo, but in my totally non scientific observation on SSRM lock times with and without Arte, and it does seem to give a 25% decrease. Which may of course just be my mind playing tricks.

I was considering a 4x, but now looking at the 1X since I can fit 1x AC20 and 5x MLas...heard good things about this.

I usually run 2 UAC5, 2 AC5, and 2 ML in my 4X. Mostly just for giggles.
