And what do you do when an ECM light mech comes over and sits on your *** for most of the match? All your streaks are now useless, and you get to fight him with the LBX and mediums.
Not to mention how often my right arm gets blown off, even if there's nothing in it.

Why not just stay in the mechlab? Bad things can happen if you launch.

I wouldn't care, except those two specific things happen in minimum 50% of my matches when I play the 1N.

No, you're right. The LB10-X does the pretty normal damage, but spreads it out, wasting most of its potential.

LBx-10 can be useful for hitting speed pigeons and their lag shields. IT's also designed to allow a person to not have to aim to hit criticals if someone's armor is gone.

The spread does indeed allow you to get partial hits on Lights, the same way a hunting shotgun works. Except this bird won't die from one hit... you fire at a Light, you do one damage to its CT, one to a side torso and one to a leg. Just use a Medium Laser instead.

Since you normally can only get a few pellets to hit the exposed section and every pellet only does 1 damage, the only item a LB10-X might have a significant chance of destroying via crits is the Gauss, or the AC/20. Anything else? Good freakin' luck. It'll be forever before you manage to get 10 crits on the same item.

It's a very, very bad weapon. I actually tried it for something like two dozen games just to confirm... indeed, my damage didn't go down much, but my efficiency went out the window; although every hit did close to 10 damage, most of that damage was wasted on parts that didn't contribute to a mech's disabling or destruction.

Was that a joke? 1N is the second best dragon (flame is best). Load him with xl 350 and 2xml, lbx10, 2xssr2.
atm my config for this mech is close to yours, i like to use all my hardpoints, so imo this config is not optimal.

I lean toward the 1C, myself, with a Gauss and 4 Medium Lasers. The 1N is probably my 3rd choice.

the 5N is probably the worst, and the Fang, the most pointless. Flame is definitely the best.

no, not really...

I found my playstyle by playing different chassis. Once you find out how you like to play..the hardpoints are the same throughout the weight classes..

are you a missles dude?

are you a laser *****?

are you a thuka-thuka-thuka noob?

or

are you a BOOM-Gauss pro...

you're weapon choice won't change much

Started with the 4SP as my first bought mech in open beta and still my favorite after grinding the other variants. Waiting until they add the Jagermech to see which I like most, but hopefully they fix ballistic firing bugs by then.

I hated the Hunch-P until I played it, found a non-standard build for it that suited my playstyle well.

On the downside, I still haven't found a build that makes the 1N dragon not crap.

Obviously you dont play dragons much or arent privvy to the nuances of the dragon.
The DRG-1N is perhaps the second best DRG behind the 1C.

and I only recently changed my mind about that.

Big guns in arms...how do they work????

ps 5n is the worst.

I use on all Dragons the LBX-10 and an 310XL,
makes it fast enoguh and leaves enough punch and i can handle the LBX well, it suites my playing style.

1C /Flame = 4M-Laser, 1 srm6
1N = 2 M-Pulse, 2 srm4

The Spread on the LBX on the 1N is a little wider and i got a better Missle Punch on him. So its not crap and playable...
worst Dragon variant is the 5N.

It don't have the tonnage for 3 AC/2 and good secondary armament which you would need. So you are stuck with a dual Ballistic which a 1N fills better as he got more Missle Punch.

So you end up with funnie builds with 2 MG's or something like that on him...

Welcome to the club. I was going with the 4X to replace my HBK, decided the XL engine was a liability and didn't like it anyway I put it with a std in there. Ended up with the 1X I'd brought for XP grinding as the keeper.

Not quite as balls out as the 4X+XL with the 2/2 U/AC5's though but nowhere near as fragile either.

I played mostly Dragons Hunchbacks and. catapults in closed beta.
Did find a good 1N build though, 900 dmg and. 4 kills is my record with it so far.

Well in closed beta I only played my Founders Hunchback and didn't do anythign with the trees since I was playing all the mechs and testing out the trials. When they announced Open beta i decided that the Catapult was more my play style and did those first. I mastered 2 of them C1 (my favorite and wish I chose this for my foudners) and the K2. The C4 didn't do it for me so I didn't master it.

Then I moved onto the Hunchbacks since I liked my 4G. I did the 4P and 4SP since lots of people play them. Well I started toying around with the 4SP and put 2x LL (one in each arm) and an LRM15 on it and had tons of fun. I could have easily done this with the 4J as well but with the 4SP, the LRM15 wasn't a sure loss because it's a 50/50 chance to see which torso it's in (I still put it in the right, lol). So my Hunchback was a long range support mech with decent armor and maneuverability.

Yea, in Closed Beta i played the Dragons and the 5N just didn't do it for me either.
