Update on the above:

After review, it seems that Large Lasers are working at a rate that is fairly well balanced. That being said, the Large PULSE Laser and ER-Large Lasers seem to be generating too much heat. I've found some new numbers that work fairly well and we'll be putting this into test after the holidays.

The PPC and ER-PPCs also seem to be generating a bit too much heat and like above, I've found new numbers that seem to work and have those going into test as well.
Because this is a very sensitive subject with you all, I am expecting these changes to appear early to mid January because I want to make sure that numerous Mech builds are thoroughly tested before releasing it to the Live servers.

I'll keep you updated as this progresses.

Game development = big team, many different sections, camo team probably not the same as coding team or map making team, not everybody does everything, deep breath, just a game

the reasons we're getting camo and not maps is that they're charging for camo and not maps

the problem with that theory is the "map team" hasn't turned out a map in weeks and isn't scheduled to turn one out for another 4-6 weeks at soonest. so what do you think they do all day?

Well, you see, maps are real real easy. they dont have to be tested, or textured, or have effects and whatnot. So they *should* be turning those bad boys out at a rate of like three a month. I mean WTF!

Oh I knew about that thread, thanks though :unsure:

I just like throwing it in his face constantly. He did get a little better for awhile. I see now though he didn't have his caffeine so it's business as usual.

There's a lot more to designing an area though than there is to designing a battle-mech. They have a pretty good starting point with the Mechs and their mechanics already being fleshed out in BattleTech canon whereas the maps are built pretty much from scratch.

Issues such as the flow of battle, balancing and geometric symmetry, complexity of geometry / visibility and clipping bugs are just some of the problems their map designers face. And this is all before someone has to texture and light them, and design any visual effects (e.g. gunfire in River City) that will be used.

Finally, they need to get a team of testers to play the map over and over with different Mech drops to get a feel for how the terrain affects the viability of Mech variants. For example, a map with lots of cover will put missile boats at a disadvantage.
