Hi all! Just started playing. saved up money and bought a Catapracht CTF-2X. I fitted it with an AC/20, a PPS, a large laser, and I'm planning on putting on a couple of LRM-s. The only thing I don' understand is that I can not see any weight indicator. I do not know how much more weight I can handle. WHERE IS IT??? ;)
Oh and I need your opinion on my mech. Whas it a good choise? What changes should I make? THANKS ALOT

The weight indicator is on the left side of the mechlab. Below the speed and above the firepower, heat efficiency and armor indicator bars.

You can do well in -almost- anything, but if you have trouble getting 200-400 damage rounds then you might want to consider a weapon type that you have an easier time hitting with as well as reading up on lag shield and how to deal with it.

Hi Hugo,

Welcome aboard, good choice with the CTF-2X it is a great chassis. If you are interested in looking at some different loadouts I would suggest you check out the Battlemech section of this forum, a lot of discussion in there.

There is also a great web based tool you can use (at work ;) ) to play around with various mech loadouts. Here is a 2X build that I use as an example CTF-2X

Hugo,

The 2x used to be my favorite cataphract...before I found the 3D. That being said its still a really versatile mech. A couple of weapons loadouts that I found that were effective for me are....

Gauss Rifle
30 rounds
(Large amount of pinpoint damage)

2 SRM 6 Packs with artemis
(Due to the shape of the launcher each volley comes out in rounds of 3, makes it much easier to aim and pinpoint) 200 rounds i believe??

3 Medium Lasers

This is with an XL 300 engine keeps you mobile enough to get in the action to alpha then backout to cover to reload.

Or If your perfer a standard engine...

I believe its a Standard 280 (At work now so cant check specifically)

AC20 with 4 tons of ammo

2 Streak SRM2's 2 Tons of ammo

3 Medium lasers

The mech variant you has chosen be good.
But your weapon choice be bad.
As is, it will likely run too hot or have other issues if you attempt to compensate for the heat issue.

Yeah, the 'Phract line are all solid mechs, I personally think the 2X is the "worst" of the builds but that is just, like, my opinion. Man.

The main problem you have in the build is you are mixing too many weapons.

There are several classes of weapon here:

Direct Fire Ballistic / Projectile Weapons (Autocannons, Gauss Rifles, and PPC's)
Lasers (which do "Damage over Time")
Missiles

When you mix, say, an AC/20 (short range projectile / ballistic), PPC (long range projectile / ballistic) and a Laser (medium range DoT energy weapon) - they can indeed work but you have several very different firing profiles, so they would have to be on separate groups to really use well.

As a general rule, you want a few complimentary weapons (weapons with similar range and behavior) grouped together. So you'd have, say, the LL on group 1 (Right Mouse Button), the PPC on 2 (Left Mouse Button), and then some LRM's on 3.

AC/20's work best in tandem with Medium Lasers and SRM's. Same range profile.

PPC's work best in tandem with an AC/2 or Gauss, or maybe an AC/5 or UAC/5.

LRM's work great when used alongside Large Lasers, or with just Medium Lasers for dealing with stuff that gets under LRM's minimum range.

Almost any build can be viable, but the best builds are ones where all the weapons work together, either for a very large alpha strike, or having 1 set of weapons cover the weakness of the other (Medium Lasers to take out targets under 180 meters when using LRM's.)
