I ask as I am holding out hope for a Marauder or Warhammer. I am assuming they have built them as we did see a Warhammer in one of the first trailers before it was pulled. I guess I will hold out hope till otherwise told.

There is no evidence that there will be any premium cash only mech chassis- cosmetic changes yes, but I don't think cash-only mech chassis fits their goal of ftp players having access to anything that affects gameplay.

Many of the Unseen designs are owned by a slew of other companies and will never be seen again. Reseen designs are a different matter, but we have no official word yet if the Reseen will make an appearance or not.

never seen again .... how does this benifit anyone especially the company that owns the rights .... what are they holding onto them for some special event?

I really really really want to see a Marauder. It's probably my all time favorite 'Mech in existence, although since it's Clan we won't see it for another year. Maybe.

Nevermind, did some research, it isn't Clan, just used by Clanners.

Companies like Big West that still markets a large volume of Macross figures, toys, and merchandise? not all of the Unseen are owned by the same company, and some are more willing than others to share. big West and their Macross IP are not.

I don't really see why they don't just negotiate a deal with Big West and gain access for the rights of those 'Mechs in exchange for like 10-15% royalty on any purchases or something. I'm sure there's a better way of doing it though.

I think the budget at PGI are running fairly thin already without extending legal fees for negotiating with Big West, who, iirc, has shown in the past not to be particularly interested in licencing Macross-derived designs for non-Macross/Robotech use.

It's disappointing that the original owners let this get so out of hand that the consumers are the ones that pay for it by missing out. A BAttletech game without the Archer, Marauder and Warhammer will be poorer for it unfortunately.

I know right? I really will miss all the good 'Mechs I was running with so many years ago.

If the "unseen" mechs were real money only, MWO could charge double for them and offer half to the original rights holders as a peace offering. I'm sure many people would buy them... but then the trick is finding out who is actually entitled to the money - the original studio, the north american licensor, the importer, the toy companies which bought the rights, Harmony Gold? It would probably be a general melee based on the events which have unfolded so far and a huge distraction to the rest of the game.

This is a franchise that is unfortunately very unclear on who has exactly what rights in what genres in what countries. Macross is a big Intellectual Property, and you cant' assume they would be satisfied with even 100 percent of the sales of a Marauder, if they perceived it might dilute the value of their Macross IP.

It's a messy situation and one I am glad they are not bothering with while they're working on getting the game launched.

I'm going to assume, for a moment, that you're not trolling and are actually asking what you've typed here.

The Marauder is not Clan. Has never been Clan. They have a couple variants loosely based on the Marauder, ya, but those come a LONG ways later.

The Marauder was originally a Marik and DC mech, if I recall correctly, introduced in the 2600s. Lemme go verify that....brb.

ADDED in: Yep. Marik, Draconis Combine, and pretty much all the big players of the original SLDF uses Marauders extensively. So, very much not Clan.

The Marauder in MW2 was the Marauder IIC. The clan redesign of the original IS Marauder. :P

The disappointment started decades ago when CBT "borrowed" other people's designs instead of coming up with 100% original material.
Yeah, the Warhammer, Marauder are sweet, but they never belonged to CBT, or FASA, and AFAIK, none of the original owners were even asked for permission before everything went to print.

Just try to think about this as they never existed. Frankly, I see no reason why the Warhammer cannot be altered enough to be it's own design. Even the Loki is so similar in some design aspects that it's not beyond imagining a revamped original design that wears the SmackHammer monicker.

The Marauder however....well, it ALWAYS looked out of place with it's organically inspired design, yeah folks dressed it up to look like it fit in the BT universe over the years, and some looked better than others....but it always irked me to see it walking around the other original mechs, as did the Valkyrie, but to a lesser degree as it's design was altered more than the Marauder could be.

This isn't to say I don't like them, I love the WH, but I don't think we will see these designs come back in whole, not the way we are used to, legal wrangling has prevented that.
