Welcome to the MWO community! I would advise you to first check out this thread http://mwomercs.com/...-pretty-please/ as it has a whole lot of useful information pertaining to MWO specifically. If you are new to BattleTech altogether and would like to learn more about the history, and when MWO takes place, check out http://www,sarna.net .

The mech you choose should reflect what role you wish to play, be it support, scout, assault, or somewhere in between. Don't pick a 100 ton mech thinking you'll just walk all over the competition with big guns and armor, because you'll likely just be frustrated when a couple light mech's are tearing you up. :o If I was you as a new player, I would go for a medium or heavy mech (60-80 tons ) since they are mobile and pack good weaponry. You can download Mechwarrior 4 for free from http://www.mektek.net , this will give you in game experience that you can transfer over to MWO.

Good Luck and I look forward to seeing you on the field of battle!

EDIT: Fixed the .net thanks for the heads up! :P

What i like is, this is entirley possible. If my understanding of the game is correct ("one" galaxy we are fighting for control over) then most of us will probably have verse each other at some point.

The best way to learn how to play is to just play the game itself and get familiar with how things work, how your 'mechs work, how the weapon works, how you work. Personally any 'mech is a fine choice, back in the MechWarrior 3 days I took a Puma (Adder for the Clanners) and took out a full lance of Annihilators no problem with two ER PPC's.

puma was op in mech 3 with 2 er ppcs and enhanced optics zoom. you could head shot anything from max range.

Seconded.

Go with a medium as it will allow a bit of versitility when taking the field. Speed combined with more armor than a lighter Mech gives you some staying power.

as a call of duty vet, you will want a cicada with machine guns. thats the closest thing to infantry.
