Alternatively here's the same build that's been upgraded with the more expensive DHS and STD 300 and AMS:

To give an analogy from nature- the Dessert/Arctic have more generalists- the Rainforest is dominated by specialists. Early Battletech is dominated by all Battlemech Generalist builds, whereas latter Battletech is dominated by Combined Arms Tactics which includes a great many specialists.
Not to say there are no Specialists in 3025 (SRM/LRM Carriers) or Generalists during the Jihad, but what makes more sense does shift over time. Mostly because the Terrain changes.
Your design is just, overall, very good and inexpensive imo, so you don't need a lot of money to make a good Mech. Also it is very, very strong as a brawler while being a generalist in many respects, which I think also makes it an excellent build. It may not top the charts vs a pure brawler, but the contributions are more important often times in many respects, if but more subtle.

I really like the 2 LL on your build. One feels a little empty, but is better than none of course. With limited heat to work with, if not 5-6LL build, then 2-3 is the max. ML are really effective and super light. I've tried SRM+LRM as well as SSRM with this kind of build, and both are nice. I think your mech could use TAG, since ECM screws this build really bad. Overall, I really think SRM or LRM will be more effective if you can find the weight. People like to say that SSRM you are paying for accuracy, but really you are paying for lower weight. The weight you would need for HS to power SRM, and the lower weight of the ammo. If it is a choice between SSRM10 and SRM14.

Sorry if you aren't... mean no offense. I'm from Canada but I worked in Newcastle for a few months and you sound similar to the Geordies I knew.
Anyway, thanks for the build! After I'm done my Hunchbacks, I plan to move up to the Stalker, so this will be very useful.
Cheers!

STK-3F - 6 mLas, 4 SSRM2 (2 tons ammo), BAP, STD255, 39 SHS. Was able to top the scoreboard on the caldera map without overheating more than once or twice trying it out.

I'd highly suggest picking up the DHS upgrade. You can then get more armour, a more efficient heat rating & a bigger engine; something a bit like this. Then just fine tune the armour/ams/ammo/tag/engine to your play style.
DHS will not give you a more efficient heat rating with my version of this build. I have 39 SHS on mine, there aren't enough crit slots to match that heat efficiency with DHS.
