I thought I would share this build for people that are just wanting to elite this class without spending much money on it.

I am using 5M with similar config - 2 LL, 3 ML, 4 SSRM, 1 LRM20 + Artemis. Im getting much more kills with this variant than with any other config. Problem is when enemy has too many ECMs...

Looks like a fun build. I've been a little lost trying to figure out my next mech, maybe I'll give the Stalkers a try.

Great video as usual! This build has plenty of crit spaces available, how much better does it get with DHS?

Very entertaining! As an upgrade route for those interested here's the same build with the affordable ES upgrade + STD275 engine:

Alternatively here's the same build that's been upgraded with the more expensive DHS and STD 300 and AMS:

Good build. So a lot is viable if you have either 1- All Generalists (aka the Succession Wars- this is particularly important if resources are scarce or the war needs to be very mobile as you need all units to move at the same pace- which would make more sense during the latter Succession Wars (when Battletech was made) because troops are more thinned out and fighting has largely deteriorated to guerilla tactics and raiding. ) 2- All specialists of various types- this works better in larger numbers and with more mixed units.

To give an analogy from nature- the Dessert/Arctic have more generalists- the Rainforest is dominated by specialists. Early Battletech is dominated by all Battlemech Generalist builds, whereas latter Battletech is dominated by Combined Arms Tactics which includes a great many specialists.

Not to say there are no Specialists in 3025 (SRM/LRM Carriers) or Generalists during the Jihad, but what makes more sense does shift over time. Mostly because the Terrain changes.

Your design is just, overall, very good and inexpensive imo, so you don't need a lot of money to make a good Mech. Also it is very, very strong as a brawler while being a generalist in many respects, which I think also makes it an excellent build. It may not top the charts vs a pure brawler, but the contributions are more important often times in many respects, if but more subtle.

Awesome video Mack1, how much did that cost to buy and upgrade then? I'll go look it up as well while I await your answer. That was fun to watch. I'm learning on a Jenner D, but I would like to get an assault one of these days soon. I want to kill more, not sure how much killing can be done in a Jenner, maybe some one has a video?

Nice build. I have tried about every loadout on the 5m. The two builds I have had the most effectiveness with are the SRM30 and LRM45 builds. If i had a 300xl, I am sure I could improve the LRM build. The SRM30 build has the most punch of any of them. The LRM one is quite nice also, but it definitely less fun to play.

I really like the 2 LL on your build. One feels a little empty, but is better than none of course. With limited heat to work with, if not 5-6LL build, then 2-3 is the max. ML are really effective and super light. I've tried SRM+LRM as well as SSRM with this kind of build, and both are nice. I think your mech could use TAG, since ECM screws this build really bad. Overall, I really think SRM or LRM will be more effective if you can find the weight. People like to say that SSRM you are paying for accuracy, but really you are paying for lower weight. The weight you would need for HS to power SRM, and the lower weight of the ammo. If it is a choice between SSRM10 and SRM14.

Yeah swapping out 1 ML for a Tag was suggested to me, not only will this reduce the heat but it will also help me against them little ECM easymode Mechs ;)

Mack, are you from Newcastle by chance?

Sorry if you aren't... mean no offense. I'm from Canada but I worked in Newcastle for a few months and you sound similar to the Geordies I knew.

Anyway, thanks for the build! After I'm done my Hunchbacks, I plan to move up to the Stalker, so this will be very useful.
Cheers! ;)

I'm running something similar.

STK-3F - 6 mLas, 4 SSRM2 (2 tons ammo), BAP, STD255, 39 SHS. Was able to top the scoreboard on the caldera map without overheating more than once or twice trying it out.

I'd highly suggest picking up the DHS upgrade. You can then get more armour, a more efficient heat rating & a bigger engine; something a bit like this. Then just fine tune the armour/ams/ammo/tag/engine to your play style.

DHS will not give you a more efficient heat rating with my version of this build. I have 39 SHS on mine, there aren't enough crit slots to match that heat efficiency with DHS.
