River City Night is visually repulsive. I'm normally not one to harbor ill will against the devs, but who dafuq thought that was permissible aesthetic design?!

As with any aesthetic, it's all opinion. I personally love the aesthetic design of River City Night.

^^ what he said.

river city night, or to be more correct night vision in this game conveys a sense of being a predator hunting at night. thermal vision gives a sense of being the predator. although none of the mechs really resemble aliens.

i like hunting enemy mechs with night vision. especially the ones who say night vision doesn't work.

that is what makes river city night unique for me. in other maps i am fighting enemies, on that map i am hunting prey.

The lighting sure is annoying, I dont like how the sky is much brighter then the ground. Just darken the sky and add some street lights to make it look like the MW4 night maps, big improvement.

These maps are challenging, that is the point. He might want to disconnect if he finds a particular map too difficult for him.

That would leave his team with one less player (instead of one player trying desperately to see something). Why not make it an option to (not) play certain maps? That would also help with choosing layouts. It would also add some sort of realism as it is quite silly that one is dropped on a planet not knowing whether it will be on a volcanic or an ice planet.
Let the people vote with their selections, don't force people to play on maps they cannot play on, just because.

Forest Colony and the Snow version are perfect maps, there is nothing that needs to be changed with the mechanics there.

Exactly, lets all baby the less skilled players until the entire game is nerfed and no one wants to play any more.

Night vision is perfect so far, if you have ever used high quality night vision you would understand why/how it looks like it does.

It was simply implied when whining about a particular difficulty that can only be overcome by player skill to be a lacking of said skill.

Playing with thermal on in a dark map makes finding targets easier. So this map is not harder its easier. There is no skill in hitting the 'h' key. Also I don't know why you think me saying that I prefer high grafics over the mess you see when using thermal whining about a particular difficulty. If you find the night map more challanging there is something wrong with you or you lack the skill to hit 'h'. Do you also realize that if you put your grafics settings to low there is less environmental things blocking your view (snow, rain, trees). Knowing this i still play on high for the looks even tho it is somewhat harder. I never said we should baby people by making easier maps, but night maps are easier to play. I even suggested having a mix would actually make it better as a bright map with really dark spots would force the use of thermal sometimes and at those times you couldn't see the bright areas well.

I just want the night version to be different. not just at night, Kinda like the changes in Forest.

maybe have the bridge out, or buildings to walk over.

the night map itself is pretty cool.

thermal is blurry, it is difficult to determine mech facing, hot spots created by: level effects; destroyed mechs; or even from a smoking live mech interfere heavily with spotting. i often use thermal in maps for locating targets but during a fight going normal or nightvision is by far preferrable.

if i used thermal all of the time i would be far less effective in close range brawls because you cannot effectively see to target specific components and even determining enemy facing is difficult.

thermal has it's uses but for close range brawling it kinda blows.
  • there is signifficant blurring.
  • many maps like river city have other heat sources that clutter view and all maps collect smoking mech corpses.
  • a damaged mech that is smoking enough becomes hard to hit because all of the smoke disrupts the image.
  • it is almost impossible to determine a mechs facing so precision shots on components are out the window.
  • it can be very difficult to seperate out different mechs that are in front of or behind each other.<-this appears to be the source of several friendly fire incedents.

not all of us hide around corners and snipe. river city night has the greatest effect on close range brawlers. i define close range as under 150M.
