Machine guns always were able to use 1/2 ton lots.
Did they change it so you could mix and match ammo you already had onboard though? (Say, 1 ton of SRM-2 ammo, can I carry 25 standard rounds, 25 inferno rounds, and 50 frag rounds now?)
Pop smoke!

hmm, that i am unsure of, but chances are there is probably some tac ops or tech manual optional rule for it.
still, if there was a limitation that would be more of a rule for speeding up TT play more than simulating actual tech restrictions, otherwise don't see why there'd be any logical reason to not save weight or mix and match ammo types. Cause yeah i can't see anyone wanting to dedicate a full ton to flare or smoke LRMs.

Afaik, MG-ammo is the only sort that can take half-tons.

In general, tying the game systems to TT rules that were created to speed up play (and mech creation) doesn't make sense. I suspect everyone reading this forum this early in this project has fairly good familiarity with the Battletech universe. While I want to see the rules close to the tt rules, I would much prefer stuff that doesn't make sense set aside in favor of better gameplay.
Lots of reposnses in this thread boil down to 'but the TT rules only allow x, y, or z!!' That should be a general guideline....but not adding things like smoke or ammo lots that make sense simply because the TT rules don't allow for it is silly. Warfare has changed a /lot/ since the BT rules were penned ( I hesitate to say, since I was there) almost 3 decades ago. Adding tactical options to reflect people's modern expectations, while still retaining the flavor of Battletech, is a good thing. Example: recon drones, like we saw in the trailer from several years ago. It just makes sense.
