I'm new so am still looking for a decent mech to farm cbills with. I was wondering if a Cicada CDA-3M would be viable on the field with an AC 20, and ECM. Thought I would have 4 med lasers backing it up, just not sure if there's enough room for the heatsinks I'd need for the 4 med lasers.
Also, would there be room for jump jets on this mech after all that?
...too bad there wasnt a place I could test out different configurations then I wouldnt be asking here all the time?
Thanks a bunch.

I wouldn't use it as an actual mech, but as a troll build. Not so sure it would make sense as a money making build. You'd have to sacrifice a lot of armor to make it work, I'd bet.
Also, the 3M does not mount jump jets.

You can't put jump jets on Cicadas. Just can't.
You can fit all that at the expense of armor or speed, which are the only 2 things Cicada has advantage over the other mediums... so it's a bad idea overall to do that.
If you want to run the config you said, run a centurion or a cataphract.
You can use the Excel mechlab to try our configs.

Not bad. Not a fan of that speed though. I'd probably go with something more like this:

Fine-tuned it so it has less back armor and no arm armor- increased speed slightly.

And shifted around components. Also replaced the single medium laser for 3 small lasers. More punch/redundancy at the expense of range.

Thanks all for the replies! Both configs are nice, one has more range the other better punch up close. Too bad it cant have jump jets. I didnt know jump jets are mech specific. I always thought you could mount them if it has the space and tons etc. I guess I have to learn how MWO does it...I'm still from the old GE server (ancient!), but I'm adjusting.
Bummer tho, since the 3M is heaviest to be able to carry ECM before having to go Atlas. I was trying to make an ECM mech fast enough to get close to the slower big mechs and tear some armor with that AC 20. Is there a better config not using an AC 20 but has as good damage?

4MPL works nice.
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...0c3b25b5670c9a3
as a quick example. enough HS to keep them running for a while, speed, armour (arm armour as a slight shield but that's to taste), ECM and AMS for when you get countered.
You *can* do it around a ballistic, but it's heavy either which way so you end up sacrificing something, and it's not terribly practical given the speeds you can whip around at.

Thanks Superteds, I'll take a look at that: 4 MPL, simple enough to run....but do those 20 points of damage all hit 1 place? Or do I have to put them all in one spot like the torso of the Hunchback, for them to damage just one spot?

24pts actually, so more than AC20
Like all lasers they have a duration, so you have to be a good aim to keep the damage on one panel. pulse lasers in general have a shorter beam duration though, so you don't have to hold your reticule steady for too long.
If you mean where do they converge, they should all wind up on the same point. They're all torso mounted, so no arms to worry about, and they're all fairly close together on your actual mech.
