The Ecm Issues....

Back in the day issues like this happened in mech3. LRM and Streak boats were a game mod unto themselves, and so were AC/ballistics and so were lasers/energy boats.
People who like their boats always call the people who cry about it noobs...and people who like their strategy type mech play always call the boat people impatient knuckle-heads.
There's basically 2 types of players...those who like to jump in head-first and try to be the hero like Bobby Orr and score all the goals, and those who are team players and want to be more like Gretsky and make all the great passes AND score all the goals. Which player had more points overall and broke the most records? You gotta ask yourself that question if you're a dive-in head-first player.
ECM can be countered with NARC and TAG now, but it takes more cohesive team play and skill, which missile boaters should like, and if the ballistics and laser boaters want to cry about that then let them become more cohesive themselves with their weapons.
Back in mech3's day there was too much lag and gauss rifles lagged the game so much it was unplayable...and I have to wonder if those two things had been different how much better would the game have been?
I have a simple solution for all this crabbyness going back and forth for this game: Be thankful for how awesome this game is becoming, and as for the devs...make it like battletech, where only the higher ranking officers can outfit their mechs beyond stock, and the lower ranks have to use stock mechs. Make going beyond stock loadouts an achievement based on rank.
I think we can all agree on one thing: we don't want this game to become COD.

There, fixed it for ya.
ECM counters NARC and makes it useless.
TAG penetrates ECM under the right circumstances, but can hardly be considered a counter to it. In fact, that's basically backwards because ECM counters TAG when within 180 meters.
The only way to truely counter ECM is with more ECM... running in Counter mode.

It didn't help that the major leagues had you bid per match on what the acceptable weapons were - most games were bid energy weapons only hence why the ER Small/ER Medium laser boat was the mech of choice. In the end there were only a handful of mechs used at the upper echelons of play in MW3.

I don't know that I've ever seen that. People who decry boating usually are really decrying min/maxing. I'm sympathetic to why they would be against this but in the end competitive play is by definition an exercise in min/maxing.

NARC does nothing against ECM. TAG will let you target a target underneath ECM assuming you are outside of the ECM effect (180m+). Not sure what the bit about ballistics/lasers means but those weapons work fine against enemies whether they are protected by ECM or not.

Lag wasn't what made Gauss horrible in MW3 - if that were the case the UAC20 wouldn't have been viable. Gauss themselves were just flat horrible weapons in MW3. The only semi-viable build was a 4 Gauss Annhilator/Daishi but it was never what I would call effective. Combat was very fast in MW3 and generally fought at close range where Gauss just did not add anything meaningful.

Er... I don't like that idea at all. That just further widens the gap between experienced players and new players. The game already kind of does this anyway with the trial mech system.

This is true though I never thought of that being an issue either.
