So yesterday I was in battle with my Cheesapult on Caustic when I became the last man standing against a Stalker. I alpha'd repeatedly until the Stalker was left with no weapons. After I stripped off what was left I realized I was out of ammo. So there we were a walking stick Stalker and a Cheesapult with no ammo.

The Stalker headed to our cap, which we were right next to, so I followed him after having my team YELLING in my ear. Once we arrived I commenced to flogging him with my Cheesapult to no avail and it ended in a tie....

Amused, at first. Frustrated, next. Bored at the end.

moral of this story is that you should always have some sort of back up weapon. Issue is easily handled by not making teh cheese build.

Yep if you want the 90 alpha you sacrifice secondary weapons.

Could try 5 SRM6s and 1 SRM2 on a seperate weapon group to compensate if it's that big of an issue.

That's the main reason why I don't like the CPLT-A1, and really love the C4. Those 2 medium lasers in the CT will stay with you until the end ...

Moral of this story is there is a risk in taking an entirely ammunition dependent mech.

this is a strong arguement for inclusion of melee attacks and physical weapons in the game.. although in this case two armless ovopod mechs butting heads in a vain attempt to brain-bash each other to death is amusing for me to imagine.

i guess you could have kicked each other to death in TT at least..

Still not a guarantee though. Some mechs don't have indestructible hardpoints and can lose entire loadouts, no matter what they are carrying.

I enjoy ammo dependant Mechs like my Ilya and Cataphract X4 but I still make sure to have some laser weapons on it.

FYI you can kill by ramming.

Fast forward to 5:25 to see it

Thats happened to me 3 times now in my Gaussapult. It's why I shred half a ton armor to put in a small laser.

Does this even work anymore with collisions removed?

Yes - you still deal damage just there's no change of knockdown. It's actually more dangerous now as there's a possibility of the collision getting stuck and repeating itself continually dealing damage.

I love my Balistic builds as they shred mechs apart like tin cans however if one on one battles I generaly will run out of ammo after killing 3. I am torn between 2 lovers as i am trying out all lazer boats once again, with some heat management, focus fire i am still getting those 3 kills and have yet to run out of ammo.

Another Great reason I want a Hatchet for my Wang.

was in that match. One of the last ones to go down. I was fighting the stalker and stripped him when another mech got me.
I am guessing the Catapult got the other then started on the stalker. We watched for some 4 to 6 minutes as tthey tried ramming one another.

All that managed to accomplish was the catapult went critical CT (nose rammed the stalker). Of course, being on this side, no way of knowing if the stalker also went critical but you could see the damage zones blink when there was a collision.

I know collision works for same team, because I have bumped a team mate and killed him. we were on comms together so I sure got my earful not to mention the team kill penalty. No knockdown, just some damage. in my case enough, in the case of the OP, not enough.

I like having a secondary weapon as well...

The Cheesapult is an absolute easy button in pairs or packs, and I normally don't run all ammo based weapons. This is just one of 9 mechs I have in my lab.

Even though I liked this, you can still ram someone to death in the current system. It just takes a while.

So thats what happened to me and an atlas yesterday. I was in my Dragon and we got jammed up, next thing I know we were both bright red centers and no arms left. I thought it was from friendly fire lol.

My Cataphract that has the CT Energy Hardpoints usually loses the Medium Lasers before I even lose the arms lol. Would think the Catapult, with the similar "Here is my CT, please shoot it" profile, would have the same problem :P
