Hi,
somehow i am dissatisfied with the performance of pulse-lasers in MWO. Basically, they are very similar than 'regular' lasers, but are heavier and produce more heat. According to the TT, pulse lasers are supposed to correlate with machine gun fire, i. e. they are more likely to hit the target because they scatter their pulses.
Consequently, I'd suggest to alter the pulse lasers to fire very small pulses in a rapid sequence, but less accurate than 'regular' lasers.
It would be more likely to hit a target, but that would be balanced by the weight and heat of the lasers as well as damage, which would be less concentrated, than 'regular' lasers.

MechWarrior 3 had a similar stand but it was actually a continuous beam then a rapid fire pulse. I think this would make for a great distinction between the two.

Actually, the pulse lasers in MW3 were almost like the 'regular' lasers in MWO. That's not what I am talking about. I want to have a short burst, maybe half of the time than the beam of a 'regular' laser, which doesn't focus, but scatter roughly similar to LB-X ACs. Like I stated before, you'll hit more easily, but you won't be able to concentrate your damage in a way you do with 'regular' lasers.

Only thing pulse lasers need is 1 pulse that is 25% the duration of normal lasers.
So 1 big >>pulse<< that does higher damage than the regular lasers in shorter amount of time and thus heats up more.

Agreed. I also think they should have a shorter cool down. That being said, I do love the sound and look of the current pulse lasers.

At the moment, pulse lasers are basically useless. The decrease in duration is not enough of a bonus to go for them unless you are severely pushed into it by the fact that it's the only way to have an intermediate energy weapon between medium and large and between large and ppc.
I think an even shorter duration is called for to make them basically an instant shot (they are pulsed after all). I would like to see them do all their damage in 0.25s or less, which would make them worth it and add a niche for them in light mechs (where staring at an assault for 1 second can be a death sentence).

I find it easier to concentrate fire with pulse lasers than with standard lasers. Standard laser are easier to hit with because you can "sweep" the beam across your target. Pulse lasers focus all their damage on one spot relatively quickly.

If you just decrease the time the laser fires, the damage would be concentrated to one location. That's an major issue. If the damage is spread, because the weapons scatters, it wouldn't be unbalanced.
