Its bulls... that you have to waste 1.5mill to find out that dhs for your mech is worthless.. Make it refundable or at least give people a change to find out what effect it have to change before paying.

Or as anything else in this game. make it so you pay for the items you mount on your mech the second it is placed. then it would match all round.

While I agree the all upgrades should be testable before making the plunge might I recommend the online mechlab? You can do all the testing you desire there:

Try before you buy, don't understand why the hell this feature is so hard to add. Would make everyone's lives so much easier.

Therefore you should not be commenting on it.

Something I found out that might help your decision....

It's been proven by the Devs and by player testing that in-engine DHS actually count for DOUBLE, instead of the normal 1.4 value. This is not properly reflected in the Mechlab heat efficiency values so your mech likely runs cooler than you think.

The key to remember is that this is only for DHS that come with the engine, not any DHS mounted outside the engine or even the 'add-on' DHS.
That means you need a minimum of a 250 size engine to get the full 2x value DHS in the engine.
Anything less gives you 9 or less DHS in the engine. Anything else only counts for 1.4

Here is a youtube video testing it...
http://youtu.be/zMu5e5W6TCc

To be honest, I still think it's bunk that we have to pay cbills to constantly convert back and forth between upgrades. Once you buy an upgrade it should be yours.

Even if you understand the system, sometimes you have a couple different builds you like to swap between on the same chassis.... and having to spend 1million+ cbills everytime is very painful and unnecessary IMHO.

I'm pretty sure that DHS is better in almost every single case.

Say you had:

XL300 w 2 HS in the engine and let's say 4 DHS outside of the engine.

Total Heat Dissipation: 2.84

To do the same with SHS you would need:

XL300 w/ 2 HS in the engine and 16 SHS outside of the engine.

Total Heat Dissipation: 2.8

This costs you 4 more crit slots and 12 more tons....plus you still have lower heat dissipation.

What mech are you running that DHS is worse than SHS?

dhs is basically flat out better on basically everything. in the future use the tools linked in this forum (mechlab and smurfy f.ex) to not make costly errors.

but dhs is better

I hope we get clan DHS someday, which only takes 2 crit slots. I would pay out the nose for that. (though I still hope they let us actually keep what we pay for in the future, instead of getting us coming and going like now)

in other words, third party applications have to rescue a flaw in the game.

Totally agree, if you purchase DHS and then later switch back to SHS, then the DHS should either be put into your inventory or the cost should be offset by trading one type of heat sink for the other.

It cost quite a bit c-bills to fit dhs on a mech, then to switch back and just lose the dhs's you already paid for is just robbery.

People really need to stop bailing them out like this (Not referring to the poster). They rely way too much on the community for this kind of thing as it as.

This leads to one of those questions i've always had but was afraid to test.

If I buy DHS, then go back to SHS, if I revert to DHS again, do I have to pay 1.5mil again? Ditto for artemis, endo, ff, etc...

Yes, unfortunately.... that is one of the major complaints.
Even if you are Mechlab savvy and use the 3rd party mechlabs, it makes it more cost efficient to buy multiple version of the same variant if you have drastically different builds... which really sucks.

I sent in a support request regarding this very issue. The reply (after the GM said "hang on, let me check with the devs") was unequivocally "Engine 'DHS' are 1.4x effective just like those outside the engine.'

Not sure how the "testing" is being done right now, but as of a week ago, so-called double heat sinks are now 40%-bonus heat sinks.

Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but the math I was seeing just wasn't panning out, so I asked and got a pretty forthright answer.

Well.. here's the problem with that.

If you go to a car customizing shop.. and pay them to add a new sound system to your car, and a new body kit.. then you decide after the task is complete (even though the body kit and sound system work as advertised) that you don't like it.. you can't just ask them to put your old sound system and put your old body kit on for free..

So it goes with your mech.

While I use that to figure out some builds, I find it completely unforgivable that I have to....

...if some amateur fan could have done that on his own. Why the hell can't PGI have something like that on the website or even better in-game.

Well why is it that you cant mount both SHS and DHS is that a balancing question? Because it would make sense to do after you've payed 1.5 million for them.

Well the DHS isnt installed, you only buy that rights to install them in your mech. So as you said (leaving the color thing out of it) if i buy a sound system for my car, install it my self, finde out i dont like it so much, and then take it out again.
I Do Not Have To Pay For The Same Sound System Again If I Later Choose To Reinstall It. Its already mine.
