This is a joke, right?
The only acceptable music by which to play mechwarrior is Bon Jovi.

Miles Davis is a great one to listen to while blowing mechs up. Nothing like a bit of Jazz to spruce up a game.

I also enjoy Mayer Hawthorne, the White Stripes, Pendulum, Hot Chocolate, the Bastion soundtrack, a good helping of electronic music (Dubstep, DnB, Progressive House, etc.), and many, many others.

I pipe music in through my television on low volume, and teammates through my headphones.

What music? Man that's going to depend on a lot. Anything from Austrian Death Machine to Chopin depending on mood. Sinatra seems to ****** out the rest of the TS guys, for reasons I could only guess at.

Lone-Wolves for the Dropkick Murphys!

No surprise a pug would choose new Murphys over the era of Do or Die.

Alva Noto or Pan Sonic, mostly. Aphex Twin sometimes, depending on my mood.

Monumental mechs require a monumental song:

This. Spam it on your VOIP for full effect at beginning of a round.

Mechwarrior 2 Soundtrack.

This. Only music to mech to, for me.

Edit: though I do have to agree that not being able to hear things is bad. I had to do a fair bit of fiddling to get the various volume levels to the point where I can hear the game, the music, and teamspeak/skype all reasonably well at the same time.

Needs a poll: Do you listen to music while in game? Y/N.

I blame myself for this, though undoubtedly I wasn't the first on Comstar to start doing it.

The most fitting song for a Mechwarrior that I've heard yet.

UltraGigantor - Red Line Chemistry

It's a song about getting in a big machine, and *ucking *hit up.

Why would it need a poll? The thread title already assumes the player is listening to music, therefore asking what music he/she is listening to. If you dont listen to music while playing, then this thread doesnt apply to you.

Now if the title/OP was something along the lines of "Do you listen to music while playing, if so which music?" then yes, it could've used a poll.

Another, "None." I refuse to listen to music when I get so many cues from auditory things. I can roughly where mechs are by the sound of their footsteps and know when various weapons cycle. I can also tell what is being shot at me from the sounds it makes (hopefully) as it flies by.

Since there's no soundtrack yet, what do you play in the background while you're fragging it up?

I've been particularly enamored with Holst's The Planets. Haydn's Symphony 100 - Military isn't bad either. I prefer classical music in the background for my games---makes it feel more like a finished game. But, I imagine industrial, metal, and electronic music would pair nicely with MWO (for instance, I'd really like to see this released as an album).

So what are you listening to, no matter the genre? I'll compile responses back here in the coming days.
