ok this may be a useless review but i wish to see what the people think

here are my reasons

1.see if there will be any problems with it running on my computer (incase it may not be able to run i'll upgrade the graphics card)
2.experience the awesomeness the PGI made (gameplay fun, mechlab, etc)
3.look for annoying, bad or useful bugs or glitches and report it to devs
4.give opinions on what i think should make the game a tad bit better
5.to have my first ever beta experience
6.get used to the controls

also be aware the beta is not just meant to have fun its meant to help the devs

ok there are my reasons so please share yours

p.s Paul i want to play against you and see who will win (just for fun)

Blow people up. Laugh at them.
Report bug when I get stuck in a wall and get blown up then laughed at.

I want to participate in beta mainly for the hedonistic pleasures,I love mechwarrior but I also want to try to help devs solve tech problems

How about the ten years since the lat game? Is that a good reason?

I know I want to invest in the game, but I'd like to play a bit before I choose a package.

....and I love Mechwarrior.

1. Been playing since Mechwarrior 2 back in 1995 and been waiting for a 'Mech game that is as fun as that ever since. A couple have come close

2. While gameplay is more important than cutscenes, I really want to see if they can generate the same shivers you get the first time you watch the Ghost Bear Legacy intro movie ;)

3. Want to help make sure that this game is a worthy sequel by helping find bugs and balance issues

4. I have participated in several alpha and beta tests previously, know the value of proper reports as opposed to people just saying "Waaah, it crashed". Details people.

5. House Kurita must be made to pay for previous infractions. Any unit looking to take them on will have a willing and capable pilot in me.

> To stand in a chorus line of mechs jumping for an hour.
> To build the same build as the next guy so everyone is shooting 24X the same weapon at static targets until something goes wrong.
> To run around the maps with no jumpjets looking for places to get 100% stuck without them.
> To cram every weapon I can on a mech with no armor like an overloaded suitcase
> To see if a light mech can stand on an atlas's head all game like a hood ornament.
> Basically all the crud needed to be done for an excellent release and not having the feeling "something got left undone"

Closed Beta is about looking for bugs/design flaws and reporting those as well as providing general feed back (this system feels wonky, throttle controls seem off..etc).

Everything else should be secondary. If people are not focused on doing this they are wasting a beta slot that could go to someone who will help IMPROVE the game through testing. Open beta is a different story though.

Reasons? Because I dont mind playing a beta version of the game AND writing feedback. I am a grad student in real life in the humanties and all I do is write, every day all the time. SO helping out with beta testing is never bad.

Also I have been a battletech fan since I was a 6th grader, that first book and playing mechwarrior 2 at a friends house...those were the days.

I want to discover all the exploits and keep them secret so that I can have an advantage when it goes live. I also want to discover all the broken terrain so I can sneak behind the enemy outside the playable space and then return into the game to capture teh bases.

Yep I couldn't agree more. In the CB the #1 goal is to find bugs/exploits and #2 to stress test the servers so that PGI can analyze the data from the back end. Having fun shouldn't even be a reason, because that's a given with mechwarrior anything. ;)

lol .... I know lol is used to quickly boost post count but thats like my purest most honest reaction to your post, your mention of exploitng terrain reminds me Battlefield 3 closed beta when people sneaked under map shooting everybody

for myself i've beta tested in the past for quite a few companies/games. my objective was always to do the unthinkable.. as a result many issues I came across were solved prior to the game reaching gold status.

for those in the beta.. try to think outside of the box. remember its closed beta.. bugs, glitches, clipping, performance should be primary focus.

have fun and see you after the closed beta.

Rob.

Having more than a little testing experience, most CB's are not scrambles to get the rare strange bugs out, but rather the imbalances and the problems that come to players just playing. Beta tester have a responsibility to help improve the game and report on things they find, but the most important thing to do is play naturally and see what are the most common bugs.
