The last Battletech title we had (no, I do not count MechAssault) was 10 years ago. Shortly thereafter, I was devastated to hear that the franchise was apparently dead. While new TT products were being released, there would be no new PC games for the forseeable future.
Fast forward to today: we have a MechWarrior game coming out in a few months. It doesn't get much better than this, as far as I'm concerned.
However, I want to do anything in my (admittedly limited) power to ensure that this game has a solid, somewhat bug-free release (you can never catch ALL the bugs), and is as successful as possible. As much as we know the devs are really digging Battletech, we also know that money talks, when it comes to the people fronting the cash for these projects. The more solid the release, the better the reviews will be...because reviews aren't written six months down the road; they're written a day or two after release. If the game has a buggy release, then becomes perfect a few months later, the magazines won't care, because they'll be too busy hyping some other game at that point.
In short, a fair shake is not all I want for this game; I want it to be wildly successful. One step at a time, though; we need a good, solid launch, and we need to make sure our friends and family know about it. This game is the best shot we have at reviving this franchise on the PC (and possibly other platforms). So, if I don't get into the beta, but you do, PLEASE take the time to fill out bug reports for everything, provided it isn't already reported. Push every button, try everything you can imagine, and think outside the box.
And have fun, while you're at it.

I have a lot of reason why I would like to join the beta, most of them have been mentioned by others. Mostly though it's because I haven't played in a while so it'll help me get back in my grove for launch and I'm really excited about being able to play a new and hopefully improved mechwarrior game.

(seriously, if I can report an exploit that lets your Atlas fly around the map breathing fire, I can rest easier at night knowing it'll never happen when things are 'live')
2: Find bugs and report them.
3:I've never been this excited for a game since I got a magazine with an article about Mechwarrior 2 in it. I'm serious. I remember drooling over the graphics and thinking how much I played Mechwarrior 1, as well as Crescent Hawks: Inception and Revenge, and thinking how amazing it would be to play with such pretty graphics. Well, these graphics are even prettier, and the gameplay is more evolved (Free 2 play really is the next evolution of PC Gaming)
4:I can stop chewing on my desk trying to let out the anxiety.
5:Not only have I been playing Battletech for over a decade and a half, but I've played nearly every Battletech video game.
6:I have a huge amount of experience with open and closed betas, as well as Alphas. I've even participated in alphas in a similar style of game
7:Did I mention I'm chewing on my desk?
8:I want to blow things up.
9:Every other game I own lost any sort of interest as soon as I saw the recent Beta announcement. Five minutes tops and I'm back checking this website.

About what I can bring to MWO by being in the beta... I'm more of a general no-nonsense type of guy. I mostly talk about balance and stuff that doesn't really make sense. I'm in the Sins of a Solar Empire beta and I mostly bring up stuff about balance between races and such. I'm not really a bug finder, especially since I don't possess the specific language needed for that (I'm not a native english speaker). But, I do usually make good points about balance and how to make a game "better" and more impressive.

Yep I couldn't agree more. In the CB the #1 goal is to find bugs/exploits and #2 to stress test the servers so that PGI can analyze the data from the back end. Having fun shouldn't even be a reason, because that's a given with mechwarrior anything.

All I can do is simply agree. I'd like to do my part to help make MWO the game that E.V.E.R.Y.O.N.E. knows it can be. Don't keep us waiting too long PGI.... we need it. We can taste it now.
