It's not really MW4 and MechAssault, it goes way back before that, to MW2 leagues and Multiplayer Battletech (Solaris and 3025) and various Planetary Leagues, where people "ran" the factions. However, since the time frame for those games generally didn't include the FRR, we don't have that bagage that the other Houses do of having an "old guard" that used to "run the show".

Today is "excessive air-quote" day.

I'm definately glad we're more laid back, and could we possibly use this for recruitment? We could definately use the population boost, and people just coming into Battletech would be attracted to a "blank-slate" faction. Nobody likes having 17 different guys hollering how they should be listened to when they could be forming fresh bonds with people.

Also can we make "excessive air-quote" day an actual thing? That would be one of the best forum traditions ever.
Obligitory air quote based pop culture reference: Ah yes, "Reapers".

They did say something about players at the highest levels of the Loyalty system being able to direct at least part of the faction's attempted growth.

As for when the clans show up, Comstar/devs control, for the most part, the battlelines. Core areas are protected, though we do not know exactly how many planets, areas that will envelope.

And from has been gathered, any type of CoC would likely be external and more of a consenses of company/battalion commanders, who themselves will be likely be agreed leader within a regiment. People will gravitate around a solid group of players. They may start with a specific House and a unit but eventually they will find a group of players the want to stick with.

Of course there will be those "lone wolves", but like many games, a player attached to a solid and functioning group will advance and improve his standing than someone who has to constantly seek entrance to an event.

There is still lots of details we do not know, but it sounds more like merc units will have more control in their CoC/units, while a House pilot simply controls what regiment he is in (what tag he is able to wear, based on availability). If that is how it does work out, there will likely be more manned merc units than house units, with the merc units employing the more experienced players.

What will be even more interesting will be how, if the above is more like it, how the clans will play out with their view on "mercs". Of course I would play off a clan mercs unit as ad hoc units.

Above all, how this will affect new players, especially those new or limited experience in the Battletech universe.

Okay. Seriously? I am okay with a small, laid-back population being loyal to the Republic. I have a better chance recognizing a cooperative effort, and everyone involved. If I were not savvy to the forums, and I was coming in from the outside... you best believe the "f#ck you" would be used rather religiously. This whole gig is going to be a brand new chapter. I'd rather come into this with like minded players, than lose money. Fellow pilots, I'll back your plays if they are sound tactics. Politics... well hell, that's another story.

well fightening for oneself is fairly good, however if/when clans move into the realm a some loose command can be made up with perhaps high performing lances forming a loose council of some kind newr recruit could be assigned attached to those for purpose of wetting their ears into the combat system and seeing who maybe skilled
