I know the Awesome isn't getting much love right now (none at all) but someone has to have a viable build that isnt a total liability to the team... right? Fire Support or Brawler, anything...

I got owned once by an xl aws with dual LPL's and 2-4 srm racks. It was a complete brawl on river city, and his hit and run tactics got the kill shot. Seemed like an interesting build to me.

I run an 8V with endo steel, 3 medium pulses, 2 SRM-6s, an LRM-15, a large pulse laser, two tons srm ammo, 1 ton lrm ammo, and 24 heat sinks. It works pretty well at close range if I do say so myself.

Been a long time since I've used an Awesome, but some builds I enjoyed back in the day:
AWS-8R 4xSRM6 Boat Brawler
AWS-8R 4xLRM15 Boat Fire support
AWS-8R 4xLRM15 Boat Fire support XL engine version

Both of these guys are going to be a little bit finicky on the heat. The LRM build is more of a direct fire, stick just behind your friendly Atlases and then tag whoever they're brawling and drop 60 LRM on them at 300m. TAG + Artemis + Short Range makes LRMs pretty damn effective. The SRM build plays pretty much the same, stick with your friendly assaults, let them draw the fire then move in and drop a tonne of hurt on the most vulnerable enemy. Use the SRM to strip off armor then switch to the lasers to hit internals.

Your mileage may vary, and I've not played with them recently, but they might be a good place to start. Just as a general hint, remove some of the rear center armor and up the front center. It'll improve your survivability twice over.

Take it from a 9m fanatic, don't throw LPL on there thats just a silly waste of tonnage

Heres the build

XL360-

Large Laser (in arm slot)

3 Mediums (head and torsos)

2SRM4s(CT)

1SRM6 (LA)

the srms hit like they have artemis, the build runs ice cold and fits 22 double heatsinks, with speedtweak I go like 82.4

Pretend you are in a fast medium and have a field day!

Just remember to TWWIIISSSTTT

2XML on Arms (Left and Right)
SRM4 on Center Torso

The 9M doesn't have an energy hardpoint in the left arm...only missle....

AWS-9M
XL380
Endo
DHS
3xLL (right arm, left, and right torso)
2xSRM4 (center torso)
SRM6 (left arm)
No Artemis (not required, or even useful on the 9M, and disallows 2 srm4s in the CT)

Frankly, the 9M is easy...but in order to farm pilot skills, ya gotta pick 2 more variants...something I'm loathing, and keep putting off.

Good catch (reply edited), I keep confusing it with my Phract1X build which is almost similar minus SRMs.

AWS 8V
2x LL torso
1x PPC in the arm
3x SRM6 torso
STD 290 engine and speed tweak

PPC and LL at range, SRM and LL brawling. Torso twist and spread the dmg as best you can.

9m
3 erppc
2 SRM4.
20 DBLHS
endo steel.
XL engine 380.
with speed tweak it goes 84kph. Run around in the back like a chicken with its head cut off while sniping.

This doesn't look like a very viable build. =P

Personally, depends on the variant. I never use an XL on these things, just standard.
Used to use SRMs until I felt it lacked enough armor to do anything, so I switched to LRM 15/20s.
ER PPC instead of the PPC.
The rest just load with heatsinks.
It moves pretty slow though, but I prefer slow to moving fast and die quickly due to running into an Atlas or Stalker.

I run the 8R. I originally bought it as an LRM-boat, but I found that it makes an excellent brawler with SRMs. Here's a summary of the build:

4xSRM6 (I have 5t ammo since 4t runs out in longer brawls) + ARTEMIS (this is optional but I like it since having all 24 missiles hit in an alphastrike is nasty)
2xLLas
DHS
Endo-Steel
Biggest engine you can fit (Mine has a Std290, runs at 58.7kph w/o Speed Tweak), but don't go with XL because your side torsos are massive targets
AMS + 1t ammo. 2t is nice for longer battles, but most of the time 1t is enough.

Mine is at 79.5 tons and maxed armor. Runs hot if you're firing the LLasers often as well as the SRMs. I chain-fire the LLasers and have my weapons grouped as follows:
1: LLas (chain fire; key to toggle is Backspace)
2: Left torso SRMs
3: Right torso SRMs

Edit: A tip when using the Awesome is to use your big shield arms to your advantage. Your left arm on the 8R is pretty much structure slots and you could put a DHS in there if you wanted, but why bother? I like to block LRMs with my left arm. Keeps me alive longer.
4: All SRMs

i never used this build but it was annoying as hell in clossed beta.

AWS-8Q - 7 Med pulse lasers, XL 320 34 heat sinks what ever remaning weight goes to armour.

The R. 2LL on arm, 1 ML on head, 4 SRM6 w/ Artemis on sides. 6T ammo and moves at 55 with speed tweak. Ain't fast but it packs a wallop!
