No mechassault or dark age options?

Selection bias: confirmed

Mechassault games were not MechWarrior in any way other than having a false-label attached to them. MA was no more about emulating what it would be like to pilot a BTU Battlemech than Pac-man was all about learning to fly a 747.

Dark age - I presume you're referring to the click-tech minis game? No, I didn't include it, because that gaming system is not what an MW game is based off of. In fact, MWDA was ultimately based off of the BT board game (not very closely, but it was).

Maybe you should add options about the novels, because that's where I for example have 95% of my knowledge from.

At this point I don't think I should modify the poll, and we're only allowed 3 questions with 20 options each - I figured there were enough places to click already.

My first non-flight simulator game was Mechwarrior 2...that should tell you something

Mechwarrior 3, the single player specifically, is probably one of my favorite games of all time.

Amen. Loved the MW3 single player, even though it's mechlab was a disaster. It's what originally got me into the whole MW/BT genre.

Only 86 people, in a forum with this many members who post routinely?

As was mentioned already, there is so much more. TONS of novels, Mechassault 1,2. The incredibly funny looking DS game. The SNES Mechwarrior game, Dark Ages cliktech, the Battletech Card Game. And if we are giving some credit to the Battletech Universe, we can add in the Knex toys, the cartoons, the comic books, and the toys based off the cartoon.

Broken poll is broken. If the top one is multiple choice, then why the second one? Also, that second one doesn't cover the choices of the first, meaning it needs a NONE option to go with the bottom option of the top poll.

... and as I have already mentioned, the poll isn't about those things, and there were questions I would have added if we could put more than 3 questions in a poll.

Broken for what purpose? Did you notice what purpose the Poll was intended for? You might well be assuming it's intended for something it's not.

The second set is so that everyone doesn't have to click on all the results of the first one to get the information that the second set directly gives you... I don't think most people would want to sit around adding up numbers to get at the info.

The information you're talking about doesn't need to be dupilicated in the second set. The last question in the first set already gives everyone that information.

People need to learn to read what a Poll is intended for before they make comments too.

I couldn't vote because it won't let me answer just one of the questions, so the 2nd question should have 0 as a choice. I played MW1 for a day or two, definitely not a week, and spent a lot of time on the old turn-based games back in the day. Never even knew there was a board game or novels until I came to these forums.

Fixed. Thanks for pointing that out... I forgot about the thing requiring you to answer all of the questions.

You should add earthsiege 1, 2, and starsiege to round out more mech games!

I played the **** outta those as a kid before jumping to mechwarrior.

Please don't ;)

Mechwarrior / Battletech has always been its "own thing" compared to most other 'mech games. I do think Earth Siege was cool, but still in a different category. Dunno.

over 25 years Battletech TT experience, and over 20 years Mechwarrior games experience. And the only game that I want back is MPBT:3025.

Both had mechs, you want to know people's experience with the BT/MW universes you should probably include them. Otherwise you're only looking for the information you want to hear, hence.... selection bias.

But that's fine be willfully ignorant, I'm sure people will take you that much more seriously.

MechAssault isn't a MW game and never was, and MWDA click-tech was a derivative, not a foundation.

I have over 5000 hours in BF2142 BattleWalkers, was in top 50 in world when I quit.

Loved and still play MCommander games.

Growing up played the hell out of the Armored Core games on the PS1 (never played them since).

But as far as the actual old MW games, all told probably less than 10 hours spent playing them.

You're checking to see where people are getting their information from but you're deliberately ignoring potential factors.

Not everyone slobbers all over the TT like you do. Learn how to poll or don't bother.

Ahhhh heavy gear and earthsiege... they don't make mech games like those anymore.

I've played MW1 - 4, including expansion packs. I have also played MW LL and currently this game. I have also played the board game quite a bit, both on tabletop and electronic forms.
Beyond those listed in the poll, I have also played MUXes, the MechCommander games, and some of the older games (the ones on the old commodore and apple computers, can't remember their names right now.) Perhaps the ONLY mech game I haven't played has been MechAssault. I refuse to touch that thing they dare call a mechwarrior game.

No, I'm not just "checking to see where people are getting their information from."

From the very first post:

View PostPht, on 10 January 2013 - 05:44 PM, said:

EDIT: FYI, when I say "MechWarrior video game" I mean the First person real-time Battlemech Combat games.

PS: This poll is only about MW, and the BT boardgame from which it comes, not about mech-commander, or any of the BT based but non-MechWarrior (as defined above) video games... or about mech/mecha games in general.

And no, it's not about the pen-and-paper RPG of the same name "MechWarrior", either.

The poll isn't about "generic mech/mecha knowledge" or even about anything inside of the Battletech product line/lore beyond knowledge of the TT and the MW video games; and I even defined what an MW video game is.

If you're going to use the flamethrower, at least aim it *at* me. :D

So you only want people to respond in a fashion that you find agreeable based on the parameters that you want responses to. You have set your own definitions as to what the BT universe consists of and anyone that disagrees with you is automatically wrong. Why bother putting up a pretend poll in the firstplace, you only want results that suit your intended thesis, not actual relevant data.

This isn't a flamethrower but your poll is about as relevant as asking a group of Mormons what they think about Romney and then saying that poll reflects the interests of all Americans, or doing any other similar style of poll.
