I'm curious - will piloting light humanoid mech be very different than bird-like things? Stinger, wasp, valkyre - all of them looks agile enough to offer something more than standart running, jumping and shooting to target in front.

There should be a lot of differences. They are generally slower, hitbox of a medium, but they have more guns.

I would surely prefer to pilot a Black Knight over any other 'Mech, if it was available; probably picking a combination of defender and command modules, as it is slow, even for a Heavy, after all, so I couldn't do any scouting with it.
If I must pilot another 'Mech, it shall be the Dragon.

I too just want to play the game since clan tech will not be avalible till later in the game time line ,till then i belive a kodiack would do

Indeed, and the Marauder was the Zentraedi Officer's Battle Pod, and the Warhammer was the Mk VI Tomahawk Destroid, and the Rifleman was the Mk X Defender Anti-Aircraft Defense Destroid, The Stinger, Wasp, and Phoenix Hawk were all different Macross Veritech fighters, and there were others taken from other mech games and anime, and the fight for Battletech to use these designs continues today.
