Okay.

I appreciate the fact that the anticipation in finding out if you are part for the closed beta is so thick around here you can cut it with a safety knife... There seems to be a growing trend of taking back handed pokes at PGI for what is perceived as over-reaching intentions and mismanagement of this beta process...

While I don't know these PGI fellas from Adam... I can assure you they are not intentionally screwing with your minds and playing with your emotions. They more than anyone want to get this thing going if for no other reason than to stifle growing dissension.

I know everyone is looking for answers or at least some form of affirmation. Problem is too many of you are approaching this with almost an entitlistic fervor. You need to understand their point of view on this a little. You think they owe you an explanation... Flip that. For them, giving us too much information damages the situation even more because it sets precedence and expectations... That if not achieved will even more caustic.

Long and short... let's be patient and show a little bit of understanding and self control. Let's not continue with the "*** is wrong with PGI" diatribes... It's self-serving and does nothing to help the situation.

And before some of you decide to flame me for this post... I'm not brown-nosing or have any dilutions of reciprocation for my defense of the devs and PGI. I'm just an older and wiser voice of reason who has idled through a lot of game launches, closed betas and the ilk. I've learned the hard way nothing good comes from harping on the Devs for things outside of their control... and I've grown to empathize for the growing pains they are dealing with right now.

Take this post for what it's worth... or not. I just thought it needed to be said.

Unfortunately it's the same with every beta for every MMO I've ever seen. People always cry about the beta and not getting into it.

The guys will be in the office in a few hours, given them a chance to get some work done and resolve any potential issues* they may be having.

Speculation is just that speculation. It can run rampid and out of control.Best thing to do is put a end to it,the speculators are only teasing themselves. To quote a Dev just wait and see.

Very well said DaZur. As a student of game design, and being somewhat involved in the industry, this sort of idea is something we appreciate :(

It's basically just a negative side effect to people wanting to be chosen in tandem with high anticipation, frustration from waiting for so long, etc. When the game reaches the masses, you'll get people who will spitefully post that they found a bug and this would not be the case had they a chance to be the closed beta player. It's like a mixture of jealousy and inconsideration.

You guys just need to be happy for those who made it into closed beta. Why is it so hard to ask someone to be happy for someone else?

Chill, peeps. The game is coming.

I can be wrong here but maybe people are not understanding the fact that the game is in CLOSED BETA stage, which means they are not required or even eligible to provide any information to us :(

Patience was a virtue long since sacrificed on the altar of immediate gratification.

We live in an age dominated by the Church of GIMME MOAR NAO, where subtlety is scoffed at and comprehension is derided as a sin.

I like to think this is their BETA drama filter.

That would imply accepting that other people have thoughts and feelings and moral value of their own, and exist as something other than figments of my damaged mind.

And that's just not something I can bring myself to do. :(

Is Memorial Day a holiday in YYZ? Probably not, it is down here so sadly most of us have all weekend to whinge and moan about not getting BETA to drop.

Agreed on the calming down, the fact that the devs haven't said anything but the mods have made allusions to something 'new' coming out soon (not really sure we need new at this point, but I'm game) we all need to drop the pitchforks, grab some shovels, and do our best at putting out these hotspots before this forum goes critical mass.

Cause we all know after crit mass we get zombie apocalypse, and this is a decent forum, it'd be nice to try to keep it that way (you know, for a bit longer).

They set themselves up for this kind of reaction when they announced it (With limited info and facts) and not making any official announcements about it on the MWO website, but on twitter or facebook? Come on if you have a job working for a company, just how do they expect you to treat your customers? No different for these guys, we are customers and they want our money plain and simple. Sooo...

As for me well I've waited this long and I waited for Duke for years only to be disappointed and other titles the same. I can wait till whenever it comes out, no biggie. Me and my Ol PC friend will still be here even after its come and gone.

Thank you DaZur for a well written post and a cool head. It is understandable for people to be frustrated but when you have a guaranteed date at the end of the rainbow there is no reason to get your panties in a twist.

Nature of the beast... At some point they had to bring the whole closed beta thing to light and as such open themselves up to speculation, anticipation and scrutiny. You know what they say about good intentions... and this only exemplifies what happens when things don't necessarily go as planned. :(
