So I'm hearing lots about Mechwarrior and Battletech tabletop (for obvious reasons) but I don't hear much about Mechcommander, which was actually my introduction to the Battletech universe.

Considering the format of MWO, I can easily see MC being just as great an influence on MWO as the MW games.

So, any vets of MC around here? Anyone remember Rooster from the first MC?

"This is Rooster!"

"Like hittin' tin cans on a fence!"

"My armor's meltin' off!"

**This may need to go somewhere else, so feel free to move it.

Mech commander was very fun. I remember the first one replaying that first mission over and over till I captured the Madcat whole.

Well, there is also Mechwarrior: Tactics.

It is not very close to the Mechcommander (rather the TT itself), but it's still better than nothing.

Check it out if you want. ;)

To me mechcommander still stands as one of the greatest video games I've eve played. I was in Clan Steel Viper for the online multiplayer. Absolutly loved it.

I was in Clan Star Adder and Nova Cats until the playerbase died off and Mechcommander 2 came out and kind of split up the community. Played some MC2 but didn't like it as much as MC.

Actually when I saw that the commanders role would allow folks to call in artillery and air strikes I felt that mechommander had played a role in that. I don't recall any mechwarrior titles doing this

I loved MC, and MC2 to a lesser degree! That is a large part of why I am planning on going into the Command line in MW:O - if there is a chance I can access a bigger map, and help coordinate the efforts of my lance / company, I am all over it! ;)

I used to play MechCommander Gold all the time. It was great. I liked commanding multiple mechs and customizing each one to suit my style of play.

I played so many hours of mechcommander... It really felt like battletech to me but from a unique perspective. I think they really nailed it on that title.

WHAT?!?

It was a 3/4 top down real time battle game. You had control of a lance of mechs and controlled their movement and attacks. It was really fun.

Arm yourself with knowledge. Fun game. Should dig up my disc and play it again sometime.

Speaking of MechCommander: I finally got around to trying BattleTech: The Crescent Hawks' Revenge, running through DOSBox. This game -must- have influenced MechCommander, when it rolled around. It's like... a melding of the TT and MechCommander. Bit on the clunky side, but what do you expect from one of the first RTS games ever?

PS: It's also damn difficult. Definitely worth slogging through, though. Not enough BattleTech/MechWarrior games out there to skip one.

I installed MCGold last weekend and played for a few hours. Then I found my Farscape episodes and I've just finished season 3 ;) I did like me some MechCommander though.

The thing I remember most is holding 8 so my pilots would land headshots for salvage. Replayed sooo many missions to try to cap all of the enemy mechs.

You know, do any of the game download sites have these?

I actually never played any of the MC games - never had money at the times they were popular.

I think I got to try the first one, don't recall.
