Hey Guys. My first Poll try, so if it goes awry, dont burn me at the stake :D

Ive been thinking about the Warhammer/Harmony Gold problem, and decided to come at it from a different angle: we need to change the art of the mech, while keeping the iconic feel of the mech, right? My idea is this: what if we do the ole switcheroo?

What if we replace our beloved Warhammer ( http://www.deviantar...2346440#/dv5yrs )

With the art for the 'probably wont be seen in game' Hammerhands, seen here: http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Hammerhands

This would allow them to put the Warhammer on the production schedule and releasable into the game without fear of all the Harmony Gold interference. I won't lie to you, it took me a while to warm up to this idea, but the more i look at it.....the More I can see that mech in this current game, with the Warhammer moniker attached to it. I dont think we'll ever get the Hammerhands ingame (probably wont be missed, though their may be fans of it out there), but if their are, you can kill two birds with one stone by providing 2 Ballistic arm "Hammerhands" variants, and creating 2 Energy arm "Warhammer" style variants. This'll give both Warhammer fans and Hammerhands fans alike a damned close approximation of their favorite mech ingame.

Warhammer option would make sure there's Ballistic mount choices, while the Hammerhands option would create 2 "Warhammer" energy arm variants for the chassis, ensuring that the Hammerhands has enough variants to Master. Set up a poll to gauge public interest in the idea.

So, what do you think?

Ninja Edit!:
I've included the art for the Battleaxe ( http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Battleaxe ) as was asked by a poster, even though im not a fan of it. Just wanna see everyone's opinions.

i'm not sure how this law stuff works.

for example if the original Raven were intellectual property. With the MWO raven looking so drastically different from the original raven. would there still be a copyright issue? or there would simply because it is called the raven and is based on a copywrited raven?

any lawyers in here ? lol

so if they gave the warhammer the same treatment they did to the raven. would the hypothetical MWO warhammer still be infringing on copyright?

It wasn't the names that were "borrowed" from Harmony Gold, it was the images, the names attached to the images were FASA original.

Gotta admit, not sure how it works fully either, but i figure a complete change would sidestep whatever hold HG has over the 'Mech itself, as if it were the name as well, they wouldnt be able to even use the names in any of the material for this game. As for the look, I think that with a far enough away redesign, they can sidestep any case HG can bring up in court, where as, in the cases of the Unseen, HG could still tie em up in court if they say that change isn't enough, driving IGP/PGI back to the drawing board. A real dirty move, but i can see HG doing it.

I think better to take all ammunition from them, and just change it completely. That said, we still want the iconic 'feel' and I think the Hammerhands art can still give us that. And since its an original concept (based off the Warhammer, obviously, but readily proveable to be outside of HG's suit rights), it can sidestep a lot of possible future loopholes HG could use to make trouble.

Some one the original Mechs (Warhammers, Battlemasters, etc.) have so much legal baggage attached to them I don't think you are going to see them in the game. PGI is wise (yes, I said it) to just stay out of it and only use Mechs that they know they have or can get the rights to.

There really should be a "Stuff the Hammerhands, I want a Battleaxe!" Option.

I always thought the Hammerhands was a step backwards

Catalyst "Re-seen" the Warhammer by just changing the art and re-releasing it.

so then what is keeping them from making these mechs looks slightly different lol. In all MW games no mech has looked exactly like these images.

i think PGI just doesn't want to deal with any sort of lawsuit right now. So they are doing the smart thing and playing it safe

@Voidsinger:

......Gack.......I hate that look. BUT, since it is "Warhammer"-y/"Hammerhands"-y, I'll include it in the poll. :D

i could live with the hammerhands design, if PGI keeps going on making awesome looking remakes of the Mechs^^ ( and i trust them with that^^)

but until there is an actual warhammer, i plan on "cloning" one on base of the Orion, since it´s the closest mechdesign so far :D

Literally nothing. In robotech there was no "warhammer". Just a mech that looked exactly the same. In fact it wasn't even an important one just mere cannon fodder. Harmony Gold only cared about the image, not the name. They did a whole series of "reseen" designs of all the harmony gold mechs, that were perfectly legal, they just sucked.

Since in MWO even the lamest and most boring Mechs look totally awesome in art and movement I can live with anything they include in the game. Their Mech designer or artist or whatever the guy is called is a genius. Therefor I don't need the unseesn or reseens. Would be nice, of course, but I can live without.

I don't want any of the Unseen/Reseen in the game again. OR an excuse to make something that looks kind of similiar either. I'm sick of the whole "lost my teddy bear" story and my vast preference would be for the whole thing to just be forgotten.

I never liked the Warhammer, i would only like to see it in game because of "more mechs".
The Archer on the other hand..... *sigh* such a beauty.

Or the Wolverine....
