Its so difficult to disengage in this game. Once you get into a scrap you pretty stay till you die most of the time. I think the light mechs are supposed to be hit and run mechs although most are so slow. If they make the maps larger then hitting and running may be a viable tactic.

Actually that's what I'm noticing with this Centurion... that damned thing moves like a tank stuck in mud. 64km/h top speed, turning circle of a small moon. Would upgrade the engine, but thats a long ways off, so I have to get used to being slow as stink I guess.

Yeah, its pretty hard to deal with, especially because it is reflected in torso twist ability. But a new engine is quite a ways away financially, so I went with a long range load out. 2 LL, 2 MM, LRM15. I cant stand being this slow, im used to riding about at 100 km/h in my Flame, or 88 in my Hunchback.

Match 11
10:18PM
Assault
Defeat
Forgot to move LRM ammo to legs, paid heavily. Game was pretty much a route, other team extremely organized. Was brutal weight mismatch. 3 or 4 Stalkers + 2 Atlases on their team. Lots of mediums on ours... MatchMaker shat the bed on this one. I think they easily out tonned us 2x1. Beyond one cheese raven, I didn't see a mech lighter than a Catapult. Possibly premade, generally matchmaker doesn't get this unbalanced otherwise.

Match 12
10:25PM
Assault
Victory

This was one of those wtf matches... River city clockwise base cap, both teams tried to cap, we were faster. Yeah, I dont get it either. Yawwwn.

Match 13
10:32PM
Assault
Defeat

Had a disconnect on load, then a suicidal Bonzai charge, making this an 8v6 match. It was on caustic and I havent unlocked Coolrun, nor DHS yet and I suffered badly as a result. -2 mechs ended up being an insurmountable barrier.

Match 14
Assault
Defeat
Good match over all. I got targeted by a pair of cheese ravens early on and overheated trying to fend them off. I hate cheese ravens... I also am not to sure about this mech... its manuverability is AWFUL. Desperately needs a better engine. On the bright side, should have enough XP to unlock coolrun... 7.5% cooler is a HUGE advantage. Also have enough CBills for DHS upgrade. Switch load out a bit, since I am not going to be going any faster anytime soon ( engines being as costly as they are ), ive upped my ranged firepower. 2xLL, 2xMM, LRM15, plus DHS. Still runs a bit hot, but thats the LRM15 throwing the stats off a bit too. Completely broke, so couldn't afford another DHS.

Match 15
Conquest
11:02PM
Defeat

Welcome to the nightmare round... it started with:

Then to boot, enemy team is running 4 D-DC ECM Atlas. Lame. We held our own fairly well considering.

I'm pretty much entering viable mech territory at this point, at least I have a mech that doesn't overheat if you look at it sideways. Minus of course the massive benefits from mastering a series. This is about the point a new player should actually experience.

The last 5 matches were a rough set... one the matchmaker really blew, a massive weight mismatch, one that was 7v8 to start, then compounded by a suicidal ***** making it 8v6, one a base cap... who does that anymore, and another 8v6 match. So basically one valid skill testing competition.. where sadly I got eaten by Ravens :D

Lots of cheese builds tonight... like the 4xD-DC's, or the murders of ECM Ravens... lets pray they did something in tomorrows patch, I miss mech diversity. I did see a streakcat earlier tonight though... thats a rare endangered ( and generally not missed ) creature!

What massive benefits are you talking about? The important skills are all basic.

The only interesting skill is speed tweak, but you can live without it. Quick ignition can be nice if you overheat a lot, that`s all.

Pinpoint and fast fire are wasted time imho. We don`t need to talk about masterslots either, as long as the new player don`t have the GXP and C-Bills to afford it.

The x2 factor. That's huge, much bigger than speed tweak.

That has always struck me as overpowered... that all your basic skills X2 once you elite 3 chassis. It makes the mech across the board about 10% better, and about 20% better than someone just starting out.

I think their progression system was a big mistake over all. Users should unlock mechs, or variants or even weapon systems. It once again misbalances the playing field... a LOT.

I have forgotten the X2 factor. One point for you, it is really an advantage.

Very intriguing topic! I would like to see hours played just to know how long the horrid journey to MWO lasts. I remember what it was like without Cadet Bonus and the sadistic reset after CB almost made me quit the game. :D

Will be referring this topic to friends of mine who are planning on start MWO.

Match itself was a bit more balanced... tons of friendly fire though ( ask JMan5, he was there ). Opposing team played it well and emerged from tunnels taking us from behind. Once that happened, all fire control broke down and it became a festival of friendly fire. My damage was down since my LRM10 was out of action.

Yeah that was a weird one. I can't say 100% I got a bunch of friendly fire, but it certainly felt that way. Like taking damage in the back repeatedly despite the fact that I was almost certain only friendlies were behind me.

On the plus side for the "new player experience" I doubt they would have the situational awareness to know they just got friendly fired. Ignorance is bliss I guess.
