If anything, a togle option. Think of headlights. You turn it on if you have a couple Atlas wingmen to intimidate the enemy, but keep it off otherwise (hello eyeshot attempts?)

I think that would be extra cool. Imagine walking through the dark night (for some reason without thermal, as Leetskeet correctly remarked), and suddenly, 4 pairs of glowing eyes appear before you...

Yeah... sure. Light my cockpit hitbox up. That's what I want to do. Especially in the dark.
In all seriousness, I don't see why this can't be implemented as an option for all parties to be satisfied. Maybe you could simply tie it to the cockpit light feature or something. If you want your mech's eyes to glow just turn on your cockpit light. If you don't, just leave it off. This could be done for all mechs - not just the Atlas.

The only reason we don't have it anymore is, I think, because they needed to redo the skins for the customization feature. That's why I am really just asking for having a skin to give it back, because I suspect that might be easiest way to do it for them. Your idea might also work, but I am not sure how easy that would actually be, and it's most likely not a priority task.
