Um... am I being an *****, or are all my mechs with DHS more heat efficient now (at least in the Mech Lab)? Can anyone else confirm?

Edit: Wow, id iot is censored? ah well.

The mechlab heat efficiency rating used to always display as if you had singles, looks like they fixed it. Your mech probably isn't any cooler, the number was just wrong before.

EDIT: The mechlab read your engine sinks as 1.4, when they were really 2, or so people are telling me.

Really?

I thought it was well-established that the Heat Efficiency stat worked as if Engine DHS were 1.4 instead 2... was it just a rumor that took a life of its own, all this time?

Not that I ever looked at the Heat Efficiency number. It's a really stupid stat.

That is true, but it never considered them to be singles for as long as i have been calculating it.

Yes it is stupid.

Engine DHS are true 2.0, rather than 1.4s like non-engine DHS.
The heat efficiency has been calculating engine DHS as though they were 1.4s however.

And it has been calculating ERPPCs like they only produce 75% of the heat they actually do.

UAC/5 like they only produce 37.5% of the heat they actually do.

Its a big ruse to make certain weapons look better than they really are.

The biggest ruse is the MG that displays as 2 firepower in the firepower meter:

Yes, that's a single MG displaying as 2 firepower.

Months of backing into their calculation.

Played with the Heat scale this morning. I think I have the issue figured out. I will try to get it back in today at some point.

They are adding all DHS as 1.4 instead of their actual values. Because of this the scale values an extra DHS as much as an engine DHS. Which is wrong, because a EDHS is worth .6 more than an chassis DHS.

You will need to keep that in mind if you use an engine smaller than a 250, while comparing the MWO heat scale.

.61*SQRT(HS/HPS)

multiply HS by 1.4 for DHS (does not consider EHS @ 2.0) and multiply HPS by .75 for Missile or Ballistic weapons.

Here is Mech Lab v1.75.xlsm
  • Updated LRM damage
  • Added CTF-IM
  • Added Mech Art (let me know what you think, if no one cares/likes it I will remove). The comment on the model will display the MWOnline Concept art for the chassis.
  • Corrected the MWOnline heat scale
  • VBA optimizations, Loading should be smoother and Copy Current should work better.
Heat Scale Changes:

They reduced the HPS values as they apply to the heat scale on several weapons. Currently only the Small Laser & Medium Laser use their full value.
  • PPC & ERPPC decreased by 25%
  • SPL & LPL decreased by 8%
  • MPL decreased by 6.5%
  • LL decreased by 2.5%
  • ERLL decreased by 1.5%
  • Ballistics & Missiles decreased by 25%

I just tested the actual heat sink efficiency.

There were no changes to DHS in-game.

It still takes 7.5 seconds for a basic-efficiency 'mech with 19 DHS to cool off from two ERPPCs.

Sounds like they altered the calculations again.

Maybe I can get an answer as to why they do this after everyone has finally noticed.
