Not the first time I've seen or heard that idea. The explanation, at least for dropping streaks and Artemis from ECM mechs, was pretty simple and straightforward. Just leave NARC capability intact when running ECM, though.

But yeah, I'm not entirely sure the RVN-3L should ever have had the weapons loadout that it did for its intended role.

Actually to all you anarchists, the spider is not a bad mech. I bought my 5D and im getting 350 - 700 damage per match. The setup I run is-

3 medium lasers

Guardian ECM

8 Jump Jets

1 Double Heat Sink

176 Total Armour

XL 255 Engine

I just fly over the enemy and keep hitting from above, plus the spider is a small target to hit.

I keep reading the Spider is an easy kill, and yet in most of the matches I have played I end up being the last mech on my team alive if my team gets wiped.

My favorite part is when silly raven drivers chase me for the "easy kill" and I drag them right into a group of mediums. Weeeeeeee!

Yes yes yes, most ecm raven (3 streak Comando ecm aswell!) drivers are abusing an OP mech. Poor peps.

Before they implemented ecm i loved to play my Jenner. Facing an 1 vs1 fight against another light was awsome. The better skilled Pilot was winning the duel. Now its almost up to ecm and streaks. Pretty poor.

The 5D ecm variant of the spider is the only one worth playing. It is enjoyable and can last in battle for an enjoyable length of time. Unless....you run into a ecm/streak commando or raven. Then, you are just flat out toast in a very short time period. This mech would have its' place in the game if their weren't so many streak ravens in the game. But, so goes. I will still play it and torment all the medium,heavy, and assualt mechs until a raven shows up and murders me. lol

Look at the stock 3L: NARC, TAG, BAP, ECM, 1xSRM6, 2xMed lasers. It was intended to be used for scouting and harassment, but it has turned into the spearhead of every assault because the hardpoint system is so flexible. The same thing happened with the Catapult chassis.

The only way I see to keep ECM mechs from using multiple streaks is to turn NARC, TAG, BAP, AMS, ECM, etc. into their own weapon category and adjust all the mech chassis to support a limited number of slots for that hardware (some chassis/variants have more slots so they can fill their particular roles). That means turning one of the 3Ls missile slots into an electronic warfare slot, and so on. At the end of the day that slot might not be carrying NARC in it (unless they make it better), but it sure as hell wont be carrying a second streak launcher either.

Also, the removal of R&R has had an impact in this area IMO. There are no longer any consequences related to running expensive loadouts, so we are seeing everyone make a shift towards raw power builds instead of builds that focus on balancing power and cost efficiency.

Agreed. NARC should also counter ECM if ECM is gonna stay how it is.
