I forgot to say...good OP - now we all know how epically awesome you are.

+1

Eh. I'm not that good. Above average at best. Plenty of better players than me. Like I said, not all pugs are bad, but nearly all bad players are pugs. There are some really good people that pug, some part time, some all the time. That said, your average pugger is pretty terrible. There has to be that 50% below average to allow the other 50% to be above average, after all. This was never meant as a bragging "I'm so awesome" post. Just "Why are the bad players *so* bad?"

Nobody cares what you think. I regularly do little or no damage. What matters is if *I* have fun playing the game. This might be a difficult concept for you to grasp, but some people (including myself) do not measure enjoyment in terms of how much damage is done, or how many kills are achieved, or even if the team they're on wins. Believe it or not, it really doesn't matter to some people whether they win or lose--its how they play the game that provides enjoyment.

...well, I'm happy for you, that you can take enjoyment from pretty scenery or by shooting walls. However, if that's the gaming experience you're going for, I don't think a competitive multi-player combat game is what you're looking for.

I take it back, I just had my best game ever in my shiny new 5V. 8 assists, 4 spots, plenty of cbills and xp. 35 damage. :D

But boy can I get some air.

Most of them are new players, maybe. What we need is a tutorial mode.

That will not help. Players have all different styles. Those who take the game more seriously will always notice the failure of a majority of the player base. Playing against bots in a tutorial will never help.

I managed over 900 damage in a Dragon-1N earlier today.

I don't care what mech you're running, everyone should be able to break 100 unless they spend the whole match trying to kill a light mech with AC/2s or get headshot straight off.

Maybe they should have given us the stats today, so I can avoid playing with people like you.

Lol at this thread, anything under 150 is pretty bad..

Played a pugging match the other night, needless to say team got stomped, i ended up with 2 kills and 400 damage, next highest on team was 200, everyone else was less that 150.

Absolutely shocking.. ..not to dig at players with less experience, on the contrary, i would implore PGI to get something set up for new players to practice their skills before entering the fray. I dont think that a few youtube videos are sufficient to train new players in the way of the mech. It does take time to get used to builds and loadouts, not to mention travel times and leading for ballistics and of course handling the lag shield. New players need training maps. You have the maps, put a few targets in, let people run around shooting static targets to practice their aim, not hard to implement at all im sure....

/sigh...more rage no intelligence. A) 30 damage... could be luck of the draw maybe they had there mech set up for brawling, and got rained on by LRMs and other long range weapons before they could close.:D Lets try again tel him what is wrong with his build, and suggest what he can do to make it better. C) Grow up its a game you're not 8 any more... at least I hope not. D) IF that's the extent of your communications skill don't post anymore your wasting your time. I added C & D just because I felt like being insulting too.

I try to advise pugs. 90% of the time I get no response. At all. 7% of the time I get infantile insults back. About 3% of the time I get a "Oh, so that's how I got zoomed in and can zoom back out!" or "I didn't know thermal vision would let you see mechs under ECM that far away." or "Oh, so LRMs don't work up close? Thanks."

So yeah, you're the one wasting your time, making assumptions about how I act and play. I'm not super serious all the time, but it's a competitive game, and the point is to win. I just...honestly, don't see how people can play that badly, match after match, and not realize they need to change something to improve. I never insulted you, so please, don't insult me.

@Kumon, I can attest to trying out the Spider, and remembering why the Raven-3L is the premier light mech. That being said, I still need XP on my Spiders, and I've mastered all other lights. So you'll have to deal with my garbage damage stats for a week or two. Fun playing with you today :D

If it stops people alpha-ing in the spawn and spending half a match running into walls because there's nothing to teach them how to read the HUD, it will help.

To be fair, your OP was a little combative. You should have expected similar responses. Damage is a subjective thing, and the truth is that often when a PUG gets rolled it gets rolled fast. Trust in the matchmaker. Fantasy or not, it's the solution we are getting.

If it's not your first or second match, and you're still doing less than 50 damage in anything bigger than a light mech, you're just bad. It's not ECM, it's not evil premades. It's you. When an entire team does 30 damage each, that's not because you got rolled by some cheating premade scum simuldrop. Your entire team was just bad.

I usually run in 4-man TS pugs, because I got fed up by the lack of teamwork and frankly, skill among pugs...not to say ALL pugs are bad, but by far the worst players I've seen have been pugs. That said, I do occasionally pug just to remind myself of how bad it is. And it's gotten worse. Been in several matches tonight, in a row, where half or more of my team barely does any damage at all, despite lasting four or five minutes before dying. I honestly don't understand how this can even happen. One or two, I can kinda see. Maybe they're just bad. Maybe they got nailed in the head by a 6 PPC Stalker near the start of the match. It can happen, people have off matches. Entire teams of them, though? That's telling me that there's something deeply wrong with the playerbase.

Not really sure where I'm going with this. Maybe I just needed to let off some steam. But seriously...can anyone enlighten me on how such large groups of players can fail so badly?

It turns out, 3L's don't care about 12 jump jets.

Usually play a Cataphract and put out 900+ and occassionally up to 1400+ damage.

Playing the SDR-5V today i fail miserably and had a bunch of two digit numbers today :D
