nothing its really free. even if you don't pay anything...you still spend time, and more important, online time is money for a lot of people. The prices seem a little high true...but I don't want to see only hero mechs on the field. maybe a solution would be to make hero mechs available for anyone who passes a certain level of experience on a certain chassis ? make it hard so they work for it... :) like a minimum damage done with that particular chassis, a minimum kills, some c-bills....a combination of these...

You can buy everythin in STO without ever payin a cent. You can also pay half of it with money and half of it with in game currency (technically).

Back when I played I had all the T3.5 ships and only payed 10 bucks total. Its not even that huge a grind if you're willin to supplement some of it with real world money like I did.

Its why I never quite understood all the complaints about overpriced stuff in STO. If you only pay cash, sure its quite expensive. If you go half/half its pretty well priced though and gettin half the cost in in game currency isn't all that long of a grind.

I wish I could do that in every F2P game honestly. There'd never be whines about P2W as long as the pricin structure wasn't abysmal.

Amen. I did pretty much what you did. Never understood the P2W crowd. STO has/had a lot of issues, P2W wasn't one of them.

So Death's Knell really is going to be 1875, huh?

Ouch. I'm rethinking getting it now. That's a lot of money to fork out.

A much reasonable multiplier would be 50. That would put the Death's Knell at exactly 1250, which is the lowest tier of MC to purchase, as well as put the Dragons at exactly 3000, the second lowest tier.

Is it true. The Death Knell doesn't have ECM and no missle slots? Doesn't seem worth it if it cant compete with the 3L.

In fact, PGI told us early on that everything would be purchasable with in-game currency. That promise has been broken, sadly, despite the fact that it obviously works well for STO.

The weird thing is that I'd have probably spent more money had they gone the STO route. Paying to speed up my progress doesn't seem as onerous as paying for a virtual item that can't be purchased any other way. The former feels like a way to avoid having to grind... the latter feels like a money grab and P2W.

Will NOT be surprised if Clan 'mechs are bumped up in price. The C-Bill pricing of current 'mechs are in line with the Sarna listings, which means that a similarly priced Timber Wolf will cost approximately 29.000.000 C-Bills. If MC stays at a per-ton pricing then that will be the way to get Clan 'tech, but if they continue to use approximate Sarna listings those things are going to be all kinds of expensive to elite. o_O

Don't think you can compare MWO with WoT. WoT provides ways for players to earn gold in-game. So you don't have to pay RL dollars for premium tanks. Also, WoT provides more of a full-featured game to experience your purchase in.

This is assuming Hero Mech Omni-Mech's. If they do a standard CBill conversion (2500 CBills = 1 MC) then a Dire Wolf should be about 15,000 MC. That already is something of a problem.

It's really quite painful to see it written out like that.

PGI might consider having fairly regular 50% certain hero mech sales; which would greatly alleviate the cost without having to totally re-adjust pricing.

Or just totally re-adjust pricing, that would be great too.

I hear a lot of complaining about the MC price of mechs, without any consideration about what you get for free. Namely every other mech in the game, which is just as good or better than the MC versions. The Death Knell, Wang, Pretty Baby, etc, aren't any better than the stock versions, or any other mech. You are paying $$$ for a 30% lifetime C-Bill booster, that is the only logical reason to purchase a hero mech. PGI isn't screwing you out of anything and they aren't trying to force anyone to purchase them, they are strictly a novelty item.

I think this is a little misleading. PGI discussed the possibility of hero mechs in the forums long before open beta. I think it might have actually been before closed beta. I can't remember who suggested it first, PGI or the community. (I didn't follow it too closely because I really don't care that much) Either way, there was a discussion so PGI didn't suddenly turn into the devil with two tongues or anything.
