- pew pew from a distance and score 150+ damage per game if you are decent with the laser. It's fun to pilot untill (just like any other light without ECM) a SSRM toting ECM light rapes you no contest. Advanced tactics available to light mechs with JJ are numerous. This mech can fulfill those roles but don't expect anyone to consider you more than a nuisance (probably a good thing).
- Added bonus: The spider dies spectacularly. And quickly.

I'm not a light pilot, but unlike certain others I'll try to offer constructive advice.
There are many jobs a light mech does exceptionally well. The first and foremost being reconnaissance for your team. You'll need a build that has the largest possible engine because as a light mech speed is life. Assuming the lag eventually gets fixed this will become painfully evident to many light mech pilots who use their lag shield as a poor replacement for skill.
You will need some weapons that can do some damage. Not sure what weapon slots that variant has but something like 2 x medium lasers would be a good place to start.
Your job is to find the enemy and provide that information to your team. Occasionally if enemy mechs are thoroughly distracted by your team mates there's nothing wrong with carrying out quick, harassing strikes against the enemy - prefferably from their rear quadrants.
Ideally you should take a chassis that can mount ECM. As it's currently modelled it provides a vast bonus and makes the Raven 3L variant almost impervious to enemy fire. I don't think the Spider V can carry ECM so consider swaping to the variant that can.
Like I said, I'm in no way a light pilot but I hope these general tips will help you on the way. The best way to pick things up will be to play a few games with random teams using Team Speak 3 if you have it. There're plenty of veteran light mech pilots who should be only too happy to show you the ropes.
Above all, have fun.

There is something you can do for your team, Switch to a Mech with ECM and SSRMS. If you want performance, that's really your only option as a light pilot. Streaks are too powerful and thus ECMs are mandatory for defense as well as ensuring you can use your own streaks. The Spiders best attributes are supposed to be its agility via jump jets and its speed, both of these mean absolutely nothing since almost all enemy lights will be using a weapon that can never miss.

No but seriously the biggest mistake you can make in a light is holding still for too long.

ER large laser, TAG, and ECM. Put in an XL engine for more speed.

Pros
- fastest mech
- highest jj capacity (12)
- 3 module slots
- only 2 laser hardpoints (no more than 2 mplasers in CT)
Recon/scout
- weapons: TAG and 1 mlaser/mplaser.
- equipment: 12 JJ, BAP
- modules: Sensor Range 2, Target Info, Taget delay 2
- goal: get high and keep your eyes and TAG on the targets.
- Note: No AMS, you can outrun most missiles, AMS would only give away your location
- weapons: 2 mlaser/mplaser.
- equipment: 12 JJ, BAP
- modules: Sensor Range 2, 360 Target, Capture Accelerator
- goal: Take pot shots at enemy while they're engaged with your team; break up enemy lines (cause chaos and get enemies to chase you); burn enemy base to distract them
- Note: No AMS, you can outrun most missiles, AMS would only give away your location
