Ill sum up the gameplay mechanics of some blockbuster super popular games here:
Halo series: Kill the aliens
CoD series: Kill terrorists, Notsees, Russians
Battlefield series: Kill bad guys. With TANKS!
Gears of War series: Kill the aliens, with CHAINSAWGUNS
Age of Empires series: Kill all other things
Civilization series: Kill all other civilizations
Battleship: Kill the enemy
Chess: Kill the enemy
Freeze tag: Kill the enemy
Football: Kill the enemy team
Do you see a pattern here? All games are pretty much the same. It just depends on how you look at them! If you dont like it, dont play it!

Even when the metagame via CW (I guess that's your point?) is in, we will still in the end will only be battling other players.
Could you elaborate on what kind of in game activity would you want to see aside from fighting against other mechs?

only basic gameplay and game types are in right now
they will eventually have community warfare but the game is still in beta, they are still programming new content and fixing current game mechanics
youre a bit early in the life cycle of the game to have more than that...

I took a break around the holidays and that refreshed my excitement. I've got another couple weeks in me before it starts getting stale again since I don't play every day. If they haven't introduced some serious new content (though the trebuchet seems exciting) I will probably take another break. The game is free, come back anytime.

Ima guess it isn't the fighting, but a lack of purpose behind it. Anyone who's looking forward to CW will have fake reasons to hit dirtside guns blazing, but a continual series of meaningless battles like we have currently can get repetitive no matter the quality of the individual battles.

i would pay for single player campaigns that resulted in gaining XP, cbills, equip, speciality items.

Although not directed at me, you know personally I'd love to see conquest with re-spawn *gasp*, bigger maps, 12 to 16 players per side and some sort of tangible benefit for holding points i.e. a hard counter to ECM in friendly controlled areas, repair bays, re-arm bays (I'd make repair/re-arm separate bays at different control points), a 30, hell maybe a 45 minute counter and something similar to the BF ticket system. Basically a half hour battle I can log into and see a little push and pull and play until the end. There are a lot of tactics involved to be successful at that style of play, immensely more than I'm seeing right now which often depends on cheese, the element of surprise and focusing fire.
I kind of like assault as it is with the small maps. Its pretty much TDM where you can just get out and fight until the last mech one one side is a smoldering ruin or out cap. The battles are usually over quickly enough and they are quite enjoyable.
While I've had a few good conquest matches, they are exceedingly rare. The no re-spawn thing kind of kills it because most people are more familiar and prefer the BF style of conquest.
I can pretty much guarantee that, barring any of the additions I mentioned. If re-spawn were added to conquest. Assault would get very little play.

When you come back I'm sure we'll have stealth armour, Improved ECM and inferno rounds ready for your return for extra griefing potential.

Game modes with real options to win other than blowing everyone up. Conquest pays more and STILL usually ends in one team getting curbstomped. BASE assults (not capture a square), VIP escorts, some actual form of role warfare (right now the only two roles are ECM and not ECM), and some more pilot development.
Frankly just a living economy would work...for a while. Right now this 'everyone can buy every mech, every gun, and unlimited ammo' is insane. Even when repair fees were at their worst, everyone had a limitless market to stop at every time they wanted to. I want a game that punishes people for losing in real ways. I want a game that rewards people for winning in real ways.
I want a game where gauss ammo is limited to a set number of rounds sold per hour, boosted by your Lostech production planets. I want a game where sometimes you empire just runs out of SRM rounds. I want a game where some mechs are exclusive to specific factions, unless people sell them on a separate market and the supply is limited to the number of people who sold them.
I want all the starry-eyed rumors of Community Warfare to be true. Of course, I realistically assume it will just be a clone of MPBT - you 'win' a planet until it changes colors, and all that does is make your empire bigger and let you attack even more planets. No fight will mean anything more than lowering the enemies tickets until the planet changes colors. Every fight will still just be TDM against generally-sloppy players, group size forced to be 4 or 8, and maps won't go up to the 12on12 we were originally promised.
