So to all you anarchists, the spider is not a bad mech. I bought my 5D and im getting 350 - 700 damage per match. The setup I run is-

3 medium lasers

Guardian ECM

8 Jump Jets

1 Double Heat Sink

176 Total Armour

XL 255 Engine

I just fly over the enemy and keep hitting from above, plus the spider is a small target to hit.

I'd love to know how you're fitting a 295xl into a mech that's capped at 255.

You mean 195 engine, right? Cause the max is 255. Just sayin.

Totally agreed though. I even got 2 kills and the most damage on my team with 438 damage about an hour ago. The thing is awesome.

I am very tempted to run with 2 MPL and 1 ML with the 255XL and ECM.

I too have the 5D.

3 medium laser
ECM
8 JJs
Endo Steel
XL 250 with 11 DHS (1.63 heat efficiency)
208 armor...could have maxed it at 210 but removing 1 point of armor from each arm allowed for the 11th DHS

I suppose it is a pretty viable 'Mech for prolonged engagements as it possesses a decent DPS rating in spite of its low Alpha Strike damage; it can mount ECM and jump jets both, which grant it endurance and maneuverability to put the hurt where it is needed... Until a RVN-3L or COM-2D shows up.
But then it could still use its jump jet capability to evade those 'Mechs if pursued.

Anyway, I'm probably getting one of these for myself once I get back in-game.

It's like the Centurion of Light 'Mechs.

Neither, you're trading 50% extra damage potential for something you'll be moving too fast to use effectively. If you stay in one spot long enough to effectively TAG an enemy for allies to LRM you're pretty much dead. I really can't think of a worse mech to use it on.

If you have your heart set on it though, center torso if you'd like your ML to be more effective and accurate, arm if you feel like an extra half second of TAG hitting is worth the difficulty of your lasers being separated.

Yeah you'd be silly if you thought any mech in this game is just total **** with the right build matched to a pilots play style any mech can be dangerous in this game.

Thanks, so no tag

Sorry for being pestimistic but I'll hold judgement off of good or bad after the networking is fixed. I just know if 2 srm6s hit it likely means lights out for the spidy.

Edit: Am glad to hear it has some hope to it though!

My configuration is nearly the same.
But having some problems. Yesterday I was killed three times by myself.

Running ... shooting ... running ... shooting ... whammmmm! Killed by myself.
Perhaps overheating?

Heat level is 1.28 and there was never tihs problem with other Mechs.

People need to accept the Spider mech is bad. It will never be good. Ever.

You are fodder, a red shirt, A Free Kill, a clay pigeon, target practice.

The only exception is a single ERPPC jump sniper for style points.

The Spider 5D can be built into a decent mech. It's inferior to the Raven and Commando 2D, speaking generally, but is still viable in matches as far as damage is concerned.

I can see nothing viable about the 5K or especially the 5V though.

Yes, well, some of us like to push it a little harder, and 'Mechs like the Spider will do just that.
