Been playing Mechwarrior Tactics a bit and I found that having both customizable and uncustomizable variants does give the player more choices in how to have fun. These uncustomizable variants or "Stock Variants", has to be really cheap like half the price in CB. This gives some players who just wants to play certain variants quickly in a cost economical way the ability to do so. In fact, there could also be limited customizable mechs with some fixed weapons which is more expensive than stock variants but still cheaper than fully customizable variants.

The beauty of this idea is that it can be implemented with existing assets so it shouldn't be alot of work.

yea...ahm...not a bad idea at all...but do you honestly think many players will buy them anyway? i mean, if you look at how "popular" trialmechs are (which are nothing else than stock variants), do you think the effort on creating that feature is worth it?

unless PGI also creates a "stock variants only" gamemode... which would mean alot more work to do...

don´t get me wrong, i don´t think that stock variants are that bad at all...the CN9-D is a good one and a few others are okay as well... but the majority of our fellow forums crowd...well you probably know how much they like them :P

Could be half the repair bill too because there would be a lot of spare parts, where as a customized mech would need custom parts for repairs, the stock mechs are widely used and therefore wouldn't have as much of a hassle to get repaired. I like the idea but they'd probably need to be implemented alongside a stock-only mode, because if their only draw is that they're canon and economically better, there won't be many people getting them. Still, that's a neat idea.

Perhaps just let people select whatever trial mech they want, not limiting them to 4 and changing each couple of weeks.

What I really want is the ability to buy stripped chassis.

Trial Mechs are your stock option and they are free.

Actually there's a nugget of a good idea here. The trial mech system could be partially suplemented by this, allowing the stock variant of a mech to be kept for a small Cbill fee and the full customisable version to be purchased at a more expensive level. Say 10% price for stock, and then 95% for customisable to incentivise getting into customs long-term.

I don't think I would encourage anyone to bring a stock mech to the field any more than they have to to get enough money to buy their first mech. They never have nearly enough ammo or heat sinks to properly function in combat for most players.

My proposal if they want to entertain having a cheaper option is to have mech rentals, where you can pay a smaller amount to have a mech for X days, where the mech is customizable to a degree (no upgrades, just Loadout), then when the rental ends if they don't renew then they get their equipment purchased back in their inventory.

I dislike the idea of uncustomizable mechs because I don't want anyone on my team using one. Stock mechs usually suck for several reasons, the most important of them being that they don't play to the strengths of a particular player which is what makes a customized mech excel.
I like the idea of mech rentals, I would have loved to be able to try out my first mech on the cheap, I hate it, and it would have been nice to be able to find out that I hated it without it costing me as much as it did.
