a mysterious stranger let me log on with his account yesterday and I gave it a go and its actually not bad at all.

i was really turned off by the clownish looking mechs and lack of a single player campaign (at first glance i mean) but you can reskin the mechs to make them look less hideous and there is an option to play matches against an AI so its not multiplayer only. Which isn't as good as a campaign mode but i guess its something

anyway the matches are 4 vs 4 and they have alot more mechs to choose from than MWO does so if you liked mech commander its pretty much like that, just pvp only (person or AI) and 4 vs 4 mechs only. Just thought i'd pass it along for anyone who was on the fence about it

Glad you're enjoying it and trying to get others in but you know about the NDA for closed beta right?

I'll bet you're a guy who likes activities involving clamps and pain, as that game is painful, and I legendary founded.

The matches are NOT 4 v 4. you get 4 units to command, but there are only TWO players 1 Vs 1 or 1 Vs AI.

Nothing like MechCommander, imho. That one was an RTS.

This is more like a cheaper TT with easier to find players, but restriction to no infantry, or vehicles other than mechs.

yeah yeah, this one is browser based too. its not EXACTLY like mech commander but it plays pretty much the same way, you outfit the mechs with equipment and pilots, pilots have skills, its top down, you can zoom in and out, etc etc

i guess i should have known people would nit pick every little thing but i didn't want to write a book on it, i just wanted to let people who were hesitant to try it know that its actually better than it looks

If their model did not involve blind-buying "booster packs" I might be interested.

MWT plays nothing like MechCommander, not even close. MC wasn't turn based, and had way more action. had clan mechs, was real time, had enemy tanks...MC was an awesome RTS. MTW is not an RTS.

Can't say anything due to NDA man.

It's the game's redeeming quality I think.

i thought the way they implemented it worked quite well and you can buy them with money you earn in the game so its not a cash grab. its seems fair and fun to me

the thing that throws me off is that if you become a legendary founder for $120, it gives you...

4 mech pilots
4 mechs
100,000 credits.

Which is allegedly worth something like $642?!? I don't know the conversion rate for credits to dollars, but those had better be some REALLY GOOD pilots. AND if they are, does that make it pay2win?

I am retaining my suspicion and my wallet.

Don't say things like that mate. You will give Russ ideas and he will start talking to them about minimizing 'repeated efforts' and not wanting to 'fragment the community'.

Thing is megamek is as close to the board game as you are going to get online. There was a similar game made by hobbyists for Warhammer 40K, but Games Workshop shut them down.

fortunately catalyst are p. cool dudes. they don't shut MM down by choice AFAIK

also VASSAL 40k still exists, if you can deal with vassal itself
