You mean the AH right? Because the max engine size for an A is 260 (I know because I've been fiddling with mine)

Regards OP cents - A
XL 260 (you're right it's slower than I'd like)
AC5
2 MLs
3 SRM6s

No one expects the huge alpha you plant into their torso. Saving up for the XL at the moment so it only moves 64. Very slow!

Why not just go with a standard and drop the AC5. You are just as fast and just as armored, you just lack 5 extra points of damage in exchange to not being killed when you lose a torso. You also gain a second shield arm.

Would be nice to be able to get three variants of the Centurion for leveling that wouldn't require spending ridiculous amounts on the AD.

Cost to get three Centurions: 15.4 million cbills
Cost to get three Hunchbacks: 10.8 million cbills

For the price of the AD I could get a variant of anything but an Atlas, so despite loving the Cent I won't be bothering to get it.

Exactly, removing the AH either requires you to become a Wang Jockey (too much heat for my taste) or save up over TWICE THE PRICE of any of the other two variants

That alone should be reason enough imo

I have a 1.5 heat efficiency on my Wang with a stock weapons loadout. I don't think that mech has ever overheated on me. Endo, Ferro, Doubles, and a standard 250. It's fast, it hits like a truck, and it zombies like a champ. Probably my favorite harrier in the game.
