I'm debating about the optimal way to equip the Spider ECM variant mech (5D) given its speed, jump capability, fragile nature, and limited beam hardpoints. There seem to be two very different styles to play this mech: the distance sniper/spotter support mech vs the close range fighter/griefer/troller. I wanted to get an opinion of players who have practiced piloting and experimenting with this mech about their preferred loadouts to maximize effectivenss and play to the strengths of this mech. Please choose your preferred weapons and equipment in this poll, but only pick the things you can equip at the same time (i.e. your preferred loadout).

both work well the 2 pulse is a little much for hot maps though

I have found 2 medium lasers vs 2 medium pulse lasers on the arm effective for infighting. The flamer is more useful on spider than an other mech in my opinion even in current state. I've killed several mechs with exposed internals with the flamer. It is equally important as a defensive countermeasure to distract and blind opponents. In fact, I think the flamer, the speed, the jump jets, and the ecm all can work together as the primary defenses of this mech. As an alternative, I load an ER large laser and TAG in the right arm for distance spotting, tagging, and sniping from a high perch. The flamer and TAG also work well to circle a mech while continuously flaming and tagging them during LRM fire support.

3 medium pulse for me. With DHS heat isn't such a problem, and even if I do get too hot, my XL255 gets me out of harms way easily. ECM to keep pesky streaks at bay. Max JJ because. I love the little blighter.

That being said, I did pretty well with a single PPC in the arm. Jump to a super high spot, and snipe away. Was great fun.

XL255, max armour, 8/8 JJ, ECM, 11 DHS, endo-steel, 3x MLAS.

I've currently got a 1.67/1 k/d ratio in it, which I'm quite pleased about :(

I use am ERPPC, ECM, XL 255, Endo, FF, DHS, and a few jump jets. The arm without weapons has basically 4 armor and I think I have about 3-4 JJ. It works really well for me and its a fun little agile sniper/featherweight brawler.

240XL, 208 armor, Endo, ECM, BAP, 11 DHS, 6 JJ, 3 ML.

With that setup:
15 wins
15 losses
26 kills
14 deaths

Me likey!

... but then again, I've always liked the Spider. I also like the other two MW:O variants.

5D is my favorite mech so far. I played it quite a bit , got 170 000 extra exp on it after master unlocked. For me its ERPPC,endo,FF,xl255, 4jj, theres to many srm mech around that i like to stay a bit farther away, and tracking with lasers close range at 151 kph is close to imposible for my play style exept vs altas. It suck vs other light but its great for picking on ddc and just be a constant anoyance to the enemy team... like, ppl tend to give you more attention when you shoot them with ppc then with MG, and when they turn to look at you they expose they'r back to your team.

but in the end, it doesnt mater how i play it or how they play it, ppc, pulse, flamer, tag, what ever... just try em all and see witch set up your comfy with . I realy wouldnt go with out a 255 , and stopping to shoot is a bad idea.
