The other day I came to think of the Atlas after it was painted green - the eyes have stopped glowing. Does anybody know why this was decided? I really miss them.
Was it a game balance issue because people could snipe from across the map?

They look cool. They're also big red double bull's eyes on your face as they show up in Thermal vision from the other side of the map. They could have just made it not show up on Thermal. Instead they removed the best looking part ;/

I'd have proposed the idea of making them fade them more and more away the further the distance to them.

That way you couldn't look for them while sniping but could still see em when brawling.

You would be great if we just simply can turn on/off the glowing eyes on cockpit.

They were possibly removed due to:

Balancing issues, as it made Atlas a very easy target for every sniper.
Optimization issues, face it, the less effects the game has, the better it runs.
Founder issues, as the Founder's Atlas didn't have this and was therefore better against snipers.

From what I remember during the Closed Beta discussions, it was never supposed to make it into the actual game. The glowy eyes were used for the game teaser that featured the Atlas last year.

If it was because of snipers, the draw distance could be reduced.
Optimization: Can't really argue there, but I would be willing to take that performance hit.
Founders issue: Make the eye glow green. That would be just as awesome.

*edit* draw distance on the eye glow, not overall.

I believe they were probably simply removed because they had to rework all skins for their customization system, and maybe also for something related to the new Crytek engine.

I want it back. It's one of the few customziations I'D probably be willing to pay for even if it was a non-reusable pattern (provided it overall looked okay).

I had a poll on this here: http://mwomercs.com/...ck-on-the-atlas
