Well, for full disclosure you should know I drive mainly Fatlases (DDC in particular), Raven 3L, and lately the 5D Spider.

I've come to the conclusion that the 3L may be slightly overpowered. It's not because of ECM, It's not because it can mount two streaks and two medium lasers. It's because it can do all this AND mount a TAG. TAG!?! Surely I jest? But in fact I think it's the TAG that pushes it over the edge. It allows a raven to do too many things at once on the battlefield.

I will for example start a match by running out and trying to get a fix on how the enemy lances are deploying. Once I've done that I will maneuver into a position that I can TAG enemy forces from range allowing my LRM carriers on my team to fire on them to soften them up. After that I will then make a strafing / harassing run on the OPFOR long range fire-support units, tying them up and therefore taking pressure off my lancemates. Usually at this point someone has slipped past our lines to go for a cap. I then RTB and engage the capper until additional support arrives to finish them off. Mind you I'm racking up kills by going after soft spots on enemy mechs. Finally once my side has achieved a clear numerical superiority I then switch to hunter killer mode and seek and destroy what's left of the enemy.

The fact that this mech has the speed, firepower, stealth, and sensors all combined in one package to accomplish ALL of these missions on the battlefield is what makes this thing too good. But till they NERF the hell out of it, it's still fun to drive!

I guess the fact that the Raven 3L is capable of solo destroying any other light mech in the game without any difficulty (while all of the other light mechs with the slight exception of a Commando-2D have little or no chance of killing it) ... is not at all a factor in whether or not the Raven 3L is overpowered?

Mawai,
I disagree with you. Dedicated light hunter builds, Like the 4MPL jenner can take on a 3L and win, It's happened to me more than once. Netcode is a big factor and I have actually really good ping sub 50 most of time and sub 30 on occasion. My point is the 3L is too awesome of a multirole fighter.

Although I agree TAG is a fine piece of equipment, your assertion that it alone makes the 3L OP is a joke. Put TAG on a 2X and see how OP you are. The problem is that you will see most 3L's out there dusting it up without TAG and doing fine with just netcode, ecm, and streaks.

Read this. http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Raven

The Raven is an electronics warfare light mech. That is why it can do so many things.

Oh I know all too well the role of the rave, I've played TT for more than a decade. I'm just saying that last extra energy hardpoint for a TAG is what pushes it into the "just too damn good" category. It's the last dash of pepper that transforms a wonderfully fiery chili in to something that is inedible. TAG in this case is that dash.

May be? Slightly?
It is the most overpowered mech in the game and it has nothing to do with TAG. The only light mech that stands even a remote chance against the 3L is the Commando 2D, and it's still a pretty distant second. There is absolutely no logical reason to pick any other light mech over the 3L.

When I play lights, I pilot Spiders because I don't like feeling like I'm relying on the crutch that is the 3L. A reason, but certainly not a logical one. Unfortunately, piloting a light mech isn't much fun right now because virtually every game has at least one 3L that will kill you 99% of the time, regardless of skill.

The "power" of a mech is determined by how much damage it can deal before either dieing or winning. As they stand, fast mechs are very glitchy due to problematic netcode, making them almost impossible to strike squarely, and thus much more powerful than intended.

When the netcode is squared away, Light mechs will lose the ping armor the majority of them have. Two things will occur when this happens.

1. Lights will be paper thinn (as intended) and Lights will once again be forced to employ strategy beyond run in circles because noone can physically land any realistic strikes on you.

2. The forums will explode with posts from angry Light pilots suddenly realizing that they actually suck quite hard at mwo, but can't accept that they have been living under a lag shield the entire time.

All in good time.
