Lot of great ideas here. I think it would be cool if any future lunar or other extra-atmospheric maps do without any sounds outside your Mech. Since sound doesn't travel in a vacuum.

Besides the noises inside your mech, like the charging noise of your weapons etc. But no hit explosions and stuff...^^

I only would bomb and besiege your venus till you where disapeared.
To fight there is only expensive and it musn´t be... so, good starving my friend.
Oh, i forgot .... no water... what a mess............
Every place you will cool down for represent your legs my sensors will show me....
this will start a single bomb..... anyhow i would win.
Belive me this scenario is more for starfights in orbit not for battlemech on ground.

There are a few quite reasonable premises for mechs on the surface of a planet such as Venus. The easiest answer is that the planet would have significant rare mineral deposits. Mining the planet from space might be reasonable in "Dead Space", but in Mechwarrior you have to actually build a mining facility on the ground to get anything out of it.

I don't want to see new maps as much as I'd like to see map changes in terms of what you can manipulate. Destructible buildings, trees, plants, etc. The ability to stomp down fences or force a landslide. We can probably safely assume that new maps is the more viable option :-)

I don't have a cool picture of it, but how about a planet that has a high gravity and heavy atmosphere? I don't think that a gas giant really works, but you could have a planet with a x1.5 or x2 earth's gravity due to large rocky/metal core, with a thicker atmosphere. Thick atmosphere limits visibility to <500m. Heat would be high, and thermal vision would be similarly limited due to the heat washing out thermal sensors (like using night vision on a bright day). Jump jets would be largely non-functional for anything but a minimal lift.

A real brawler map, where added sensor packages could make a serious difference in winning.

After playing the current maps, I hope one of the future maps is a very simple plains map that doesn't have much in the way of obstetrical just rolling hills. Something like a battlefield on a farm in the middle of nowhere.

I know how to mine any minerals, that was not the theme we talked about. Planets without water and foodproduction only must be besieged for get the planetary defence down. Cut them from supplies and earlier or later the defence is dead or will surrender. So why send any expensive forces to the surface and do any expensive fights when we only have to wait?

So fighting there would be a construct, because no good general would risk one soldier when he can get all for free.

The resources necessary to blockade and quarantine an entire planet would likely be cost prohibitive and ultimately unsuccessful. The area of coverage alone would defeat such a strategy. The Mechwarrior universe lack the technology to make planetary interdiction a reasonable course of action. An opponent will eventually have to land and tear me out of my underground bunkers. Just think about how much food and supplies one Atlas hot drop could carry into a base. But if you want to spent your entire government's GDP to interdict one planet, versus dropping an assault lance, I won't try to stop you.

does the tropical island include a smoke monster and a button you have to push every 108 minutes or else the whole inner sphere blows up lol :)
heres one, a derelict hulk in space, like a lost/forgotten star league dropship! with some nice starleague salvage for the winner (licking my lips)
could even give the devs a chance to introduce power/elemental armour or ultra light mechs for going inside. could work like like this-

like a 3 stage match

stage 1, fighting over the derelict
stage 2, fighting inside the derelict
stage 3, ??
would have to be 3 stage i suppose so it could be best out of 3 but its just a very rough vague idea! <_<

any additions welcome!

Wish I could figure out how to post images to show my vision of an Urban City Decay zone. All I have is my thread http://mwomercs.com/...ne-urban-decay/

Just think your ideas through, please.

The last cry-out for night maps didn' end up very well. I mean, I love the idea of night maps, but not everyone (as you could probably tell from all the whining about them) and as such, you should be able to support your ideas under criticism.

You all have amazing ideas and I personally wish most of you were designing the maps!

The unfortunate part of it is PGI has no clue how to build sci-fi maps. The OP's suggestions are amazing, but the chance that we'll ever see anything remotely like those places is slim to none. PGI seems to really want to stay on earth, and not take the MW concept past earth. Alpine and Desert?,...Earth for sure.

Even if the devs take the suggestions from the OP, it'd be 6 years before we have maps like any of those considering how slow they are at rolling out new maps.

Thanks.
I added another map concept to OP, called "Planetary Rings."

It would be cool if Garth showed up and gave his thoughts! :D

You forgot one thing: The resources to blockade do i need anyway. If i dont need em to besiege i need em to defend after a victory. If i dont have enough forces to defend a planet i would not conquer, because i would lose him quick. Remember we dont talk about a habitable planet, we talk about a hell. So, every screw i need down there i have to transport and i have to secure the convois to and away from the planet. Anyhow, the key is the sovereignty of space.
p.s.How will you get someone out of a deep bunker, with Mechs? dig? lol
Sorry, bunkers need bombing or starve em out.

Alpine

Map Size: Large
Temperature: Cool/Moderate
Weather Effects: extreme fog in the valleys and clear weather on mountain tops
Key Features: high rocky mountains with little cover but good overview, dense fog and many obstacles in the valleys preventing effective use of night and heat vision

(didn't find a better picture, just imagine there would be rocky mountain tops without trees)

I added three new map concepts to OP, called Deep Cavern, Icy Moon and Badlands.

Anyone else have unique map ideas?

Maybe PGI should put together a Community Mapping team & give us guidelines for building maps, so many great ideas and modding/mapping talents to draw on for free here.

Do cylindrical spaceships or colonies like Rama or Universal Century Colonies exists in BattleTech? Not to the same scale as the two things I used as an example but a map where the opposite side is directly above (but maybe blocked by a central spire).
