Wouldn't 99% of these ZOMG TEAMWORK OP topics be solved by the inclusion of a dropship 1v1 arena mode?
You'd need multiple mechs, increasing the C-Bill sink, and the people who are out to just shoot robot lasers don't have to worry about getting merc'd by teams that focus fire. They stick around, doing their own thing and spending money. What's not to like?

Too much work on their end to allow everyone to 1v1.
8 or 16 mech FFA, THAT is what they need.

PGI's excuse is that a 1v1 game takes up equal (if not negligibly less) network and computing resources on their servers compared to a full blown 8v8 game... Which sounds rather absurd to me.

A Solaris game mode is planned (in a year or so)
Quote
Q: Any plans for a Solaris VII map or maps? It will let you guys make a Free-For-ALL game mode. Pilots could even place wagers on the outcome or even a manditory buy in to create the winners purse.
A: Long term (year or more out ) yes.

In the future there's going to be a testing area and also Solaris VII, similar to what you're describing.

I don't think it's that absurd to think that the actual hosting of the match itself is what takes up the resources vs what the mechs are doing.

By then it will be to late :/
8v8s are already hard enough to get (literally played same group 3 times in a row last night), or at least it seems like there is always less people on. On the competitive side of things, there isn't any. PGI seems to not want there to be any competitive side to this game since they keep on changing the way drops work. Once that elo thing comes out it will be impossible to do 8v8s against another team you are trying to drop against which will basically kill the fun of this game for me and a lot of other people in my clan and probably others.

Judging by the current state of the game, I would say that 90% of the community has a better understanding of how to make a game than PGI.
