Seriously, I've played about 25~30 matches today and Caustic hasn't come up once!
Was it ninja'd out of rotation or have I been really unlucky?

Not sure, but high heat mechs seem to drop Caustic Valley more often than others.

Theres probably some sort of psychology thesis I could quote, like "hindsight bias", and then link to the wikipedia page to make myself look smart, but I wont!
On topic, I played it 4 times in a row so no, its not gone.

Sometimes a change of mech OR weight class will put you in a different map than you have been seeing.
Match maker is set to drop like mechs on both sides, that is if one team has 4lights almost always so will the other team.
So if you have been running a Hunchie for several maps, try a light heavy or assault to change the 'rotation' then go back your Hunchie if you want to see if that breaks the 'string'.
Almost always works for me. sometimes just a change in variant does the trick.
As someone else mentioned, take a HOT running mech to get caustic, LOL. Just about everytime I do this, I get Caustic UNLESS I want to see how hot my mech is running,,,
