Blatant trolling. From an Elite founder, no less. Why dont we limit each mech to one medium laser except for you, I think you should have quad PPCs and And quad ER Large Lasers for good measure.

Would that be fair to you Crimson Angel? Im pretty sure you would still get your a$% handed to you regardless...

Customizing mechs is part of TT and is part of Mechwarrior. If some one wants to boat thats their perrogative, and you should get over it and learn to counter it.

As a blatant SRM boat myself, I can safely say the best tactic it to stay at range. Seriously, srms have one of the lowest usable ranges in the game. Sure they can fire out to 270, but their effectiveness is extremely random at any range over 50 m.

If you press R, see a plethora of SRMs listed, and STILL charge towards me, you deserve to explode.

I was going to post a semi-constructive response to this thread trying to point out to people that the solution to lopsided builds is communication and team work (in a team game no less)...

however, the more I read through this thread the more I just wanted to post:

waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!!! mummy the bad man blowded up my stompy robot

As for SRM grouping, they actually regroup after arcing out. Their flight path is strange and they have two sweet spot ranged for hitting. They also hit multiple sections, and thus one srm can do more than it's 5 damage, meaning the damage cap on a single srm6 salvo is likely above that of an ac20 shot.

I'm pretty sure the damage is spread out depending on how many joints the SRM hit. A CT- and LT-joint hit would add up to a total of 2.5 damage per missile, not 5. Is this not correct?

The OP is right but you can't blame the players who adapt to the game mechanics.

The playstyle has changed with ECM. It's all about close combat now.

Before ECM if using an Atlas p.ex. I equiped 2 LRMs for range. 1 ssrm2 for the lights
and an AC20 / Gauss together withs some med lasers for close combat.

With ECM I dropped the LRMs, add 2 more SSRM2 and tag OR go full SRM6.

Since 3 days we have the rumor that some people are able to hit lights with something else
than SSRM2's so a lot of people changed to SRM6.

Possible solution ? Take away ECM - but we know that won't happen
and/or limit the max number of smal/med lasers to 4 and any other weapon to 2 per mech.

Having no ECM would only help a little. Everybody keeps saying that you just have to use range but they keep assuming that the enemy is just going to walk out in the open and slowly walk straight towards you. When really most of the maps have a ton of cover and you can just wait for the enemy to get close. Of course a SRM boat can be beat especially if you do go out into the open but if you just hide and wait, your risk vs reward works out really well. Teamwork is of course the best counter to it so in a pug game a srm cat is probably going to do very well unless the pilot just does something crazy.

This topic is like a Mechwarrior asking its high command to do something about the enemy always shooting him.

A 6 srm6 catapault can one shot kill a light and it's shot spread covers half of your screen, against an assault it can just walk to point blank and hit one button to core an awesome.

Skill. Yeah. That.

If you in a LIght Streak user and you get that close you deserve to die

Its also unguided while your moving at 125 to 150 KPH which the SRM pilot hast to compensate for..so yeah it takes more skill

lets say compared to a streak pilot who as long as they have lock can fire another direction and it will ALWAYS hit..Oh yeah not even close

must admit there's no skill in point blank range face hugging and boated srms drive a pilot to do just that.

Everything will hit you if you are that close whether the other player is a LASer ,Ballistic or SRMs or SSRMS user (except for PPC and LRMS)so it is really a moot point

MW:LL did SRMs better. They ripple fire, which also acts as a pseudo balancing measure.

Canon build are bad, that's why no one uses them. This is an example of 'Dreadnaught' style weapon platforms. It was a superior choice in the real-world for battleships and its a superior choice in this game. The problem is not homogenous weapon loadouts on mechs its that the stupid canon loadouts became normalized.

This entire thread is stupid. from the op on down.
Forget TT, forget your stupid idea of what makes a "balanced" mech and remember this is Mechwarrior.
Mechwarrior has always had boat mech builds. MW:O has done more to limit boating then any other mechwarrior title to date with it's hardpoint system. If you can't work around srm cats or the pathetic 3 srm6 centurions thats YOUR problem. chooseing effective (and fun) weapon loadouts is part of the game.

SSRMs are a seperate issue.

Regardless of "evolution" of builds and what not. It is still a n00b build and does not require any skill or talent to use. Easy to dispatch them too. They remind me of the shotgun n00bs in MOHAA thinking it was the most powerful gun in the game when the best, and most powerful, gun was the M1. The M1 just required skill and accuracy. Lethal at all ranges.
