If you camp in order to draw the other team into an unwise attack, that's fine. If you sit on your cap and let the timer wind down to a draw, then that's a d*ck move.

Camping is fighting defensively. It makes an enemy work for their victory and is a historically strong tactic. There is nothing cowardly in waiting till the enemy comes to you and smashing them while the break themselves against your defenses. Read some Sun Tzu.

+1 interwebz for the Sun Tzu reference.......and for being right! Had to log in just to like and quote.

I'm Sorry, Camping is not a tactic and only cowards camp....the only teams you see doing it are teams that are completely new and teams who's leaders are completely uneducated and mentally incapable of coming up with REAL tactics......just saying

"Camping" usually means the enemy team is fixed in one position. Usually in that situation the other team does exactly the same, or runs out in the open where the enemy was waiting for them. It's funny, but I think both is rather stupid.

Why not flank them while they're sitting there?

By doing so, one could prove he's not uneducated and mentally incapable of using tactics in game, you know? ;)

Camping is a legit strategy.

Keep sitting on that hill with your one trick pony long range Cat or whatever and I'll continue to sneak up behind you and make your day a very bad one. I love maneuvering around you "snipers" while picking you apart. I love watching you squirm and panic when engaged unexpectedly at point blank range. You truly do have an awesome strategy! Please don't stop it now!

The problem I see with people "sniping" is the builds being used most of the time are only effective at long range. Once the distance is closed on you, you're more or less defenseless and not very good for your team. You're also not very effective at helping your team when three of you have decided to camp the hill and take pot-shots and leave your coordinated group who is advancing down three people. I've seen it turn into steam rolls time and time again.

Sitting on the hill may make you feel like a badass with your gauss, AC/x, PPC, whatever.. but honestly, from my experience, you're more of a hindrance than a help to your team.

I don't think the current maps lend themselves well to your preferred style of play at the moment. But like I said, don't let that discourage you, you're easy kills for me. ;)

Sun Tzu didn't live in an era with air/orbital strikes being possible. Seeing as how battlemechs lack digging tools to create underground shelters, the parity doesn't really stand here. Also, I do find it amusing that complaints about capping tend to come from those who don't want to move and do so very slowly.

Conversely I enjoy it when you counter-snipers sneak up (typically under ECM) "thinking" I'm a one-trick pony and I spin around and paint your cockpit with 5 MPlas and then send you to la-la land with the finishing Gauss round to your melon... ;)

Not everyone min/max's...

Look, Camping is bad for 1 main reason, and i do this frequently, most people like that have their heads sticking out while they scope a ridge or so on, i simply wait for the timer to nearly run out...like down to 10-15 seconds and quick kill a single unit...wining the game in elite fashion....having wasted 15 minutes and the opportunity to practice piloting, and aiming....its not me who suffers from camping, it is the campers...they rob themselves of valuable time and opportunity...certain mechs are uber easy to head shot, hunchbacks and catapults being the 2 easiest for me...so if you want to learn the hard way...pls...feel free...i rather enjoying ganking campers

Yeah I know what you mean. I'm defending the use of capping from an Atlas with a 350 engine and i hardly if ever Camp or Cap. I mostly seek out the enemy Assaults or missile boats and rain pain on them if I can. As to your dismissing of Sun Tsu... I used him as a intro for someone who seems to have a very limited understanding of combat strategy. Do Mechs lack E-tools? or do they just leave them in the rear as they don't need them during combat?

As has been said before, The only reason to complain about someone using a defensive stance is you are being beaten by it. there is nothing "noob" about fighting a defensive battle. They are refining their skills at defensive fighting and thus still getting valuable experience. IIRC there are several units in the Canon lore who specialize in defensive operations.

I don't lose very often, and i made a very valid reason to not sit in 1 spot, you can either take it at face value or laugh at it, camp and ill show you just how exploitable it is....just tired of ROFLStomping new players who camp...seems like the only time i get a good match is when we are synch dropping and the other lance is on the other team.....just sayin'

BTW this is my last post on the subject...if you cannot see my intent...you simply wasn't meant to...and pls feel free to camp

No you did not make a valid reason.

you gotta be crazy!

Moving from cover to cover, with overlapping fields of fire, in mutually supportive positions, with mechs designed for role warfare, instead of acting like an undisciplined mob, is definitely not a winning tactic.

is a valid reason why a Static defense(camping) is a viable and time tested tactic. Given from a military Veteran to a military Veteran for sarcastic effect.

I suppose in medieval Europe they thought camping in castles was cowardice too, but why fight your enemy on even ground, you are a fool to fight fair. Do you fight fair in a street fight? If I could kick an atlas in the groin I would do it.

Then Why make a thread about it if you dont want to talk about it ? If you cannot admit your wrong. you simply shouldnt have made a thread asking for people to talk about it with you. Defensive and Offensive tactics are just as good.
