Camping is a legit strategy.

Keep sitting on that hill with your one trick pony long range Cat or whatever and I'll continue to sneak up behind you and make your day a very bad one. I love maneuvering around you "snipers" while picking you apart. I love watching you squirm and panic when engaged unexpectedly at point blank range. You truly do have an awesome strategy! Please don't stop it now!

The problem I see with people "sniping" is the builds being used most of the time are only effective at long range. Once the distance is closed on you, you're more or less defenseless and not very good for your team. You're also not very effective at helping your team when three of you have decided to camp the hill and take pot-shots and leave your coordinated group who is advancing down three people. I've seen it turn into steam rolls time and time again.

Sitting on the hill may make you feel like a badass with your gauss, AC/x, PPC, whatever.. but honestly, from my experience, you're more of a hindrance than a help to your team.

I don't think the current maps lend themselves well to your preferred style of play at the moment. But like I said, don't let that discourage you, you're easy kills for me.

And I lost track of how many times your kind of "I-am-stealthy" flankers attempted this, only to eat gauss, large lasers and LRM 20s to the face before you even gotten close. 9 out of 10 times I can see you coming a mile away. It's called situational awareness.

I don't lose very often, and i made a very valid reason to not sit in 1 spot, you can either take it at face value or laugh at it, camp and ill show you just how exploitable it is....just tired of ROFLStomping new players who camp...seems like the only time i get a good match is when we are synch dropping and the other lance is on the other team.....just sayin'

BTW this is my last post on the subject...if you cannot see my intent...you simply wasn't meant to...and pls feel free to camp

Well if you are "ROFLStomping" campers so hard, then obviously you wouldn't be complaining about your success here. I think it's the other way around.

I remember when camping meant hovering right on an opponent's re-spawn point so as to give them no chance to move or fire. That's always been a d*ck move.

OTOH, defending a point against an oncoming or expected assault is entirely legitimate.

Noobs. Lol.

I've seen one "cheesy" tactic in my months of playing MWO - Rushing cap with 4 lights with base-cap mods.

Anything else is a strategy to defeat.

I, think defending is good in the real world but this here is MWO, in there is no walls no gate no barriers or forcefields to stop any fast or slow mechs from rushing right into your base or stronghold and start tearing **** up, thats why I think defending teams always get overrun in MWO

Actually, when I saw someone earlier saying that no Mechwarrior would believe that camping was not a valid tactic, I started thinking....

I believe that the right answer is that no Mechwarrior would believe that camping is a valid tactic because it was totally against Zellbrigen and no Mechwarrior would be without honor. Then I realized that the Inner Sphere is overrun with honorless Freeborn and worse... A reminder that this is not going to be honorable and I should go remind myself how wars are fought instead of duels.

Seriously though... I see plenty of meeting engagements in the games I play and rare is the case that I find an entire team camping to the point that I need to wait 15 minutes and snipe one at the very end in order to get a win. If anything, I would complain in the other extreme that far too many people play this game like a traditional FPS with respawn and rush in without thought or tactics. I would *welcome* more honest, tactically and situationally aware camping as a challenge to be dealt with as compared to the people milling around in the open behind the Dropship for easy sniping in Frozen City.

If you don't like camping play conquest. If a team camps they lose map control and lose resources and lose the game. That's why I play conquest.

The problem with assault is that sometimes camping is successful. I played one game in caustic where both teams camped. Just waited. And waited. Finally someone on the other team broke and tried sneak around and backdoor our base. We killed him, and won by running down the timer. The sad part is that camping won, and the one guy who actually wanted to do something other than wait for 15 mins threw the match for his team. There's a problem when such boring strategy is actually effective. Sure in WWI people sat in trenches for, I don't know, weeks? Months? They just waited for an enemy soldier to poke his head out to look at a sunset and then sniped him. Yeah, that's real war, and it would make one hell of a boring game.

In conquest, camping loses.

Jump in the 8 man queue then if you are a tactical mastermind, or better yet get on the list for RHOD. Sync dropping into 4's isn't something that I would admit to if I were calling someone out on cowardice... Just sayin'.

I am going to have to move this thread to Off Topic. It's a discussion about Campers in all games, and the OP even opens the thread with a biased and insulting statement. It's not a "constructive" discussion about MW:O Gameplay.
