And the rubber banding while stationary has been improved a couple of patches ago, can we get collisions back in?

I don't see a reason why not unless it fubars the netcode again.

I suspect they'll want to start playing with physics and damage models before we get collisions back. There's more to it than just stopping mechs from warping all over the ground andmaking sure collisions happen when they're supposed to.

i would like to see this back in as well.

it really breathed some believability into the mechs. instead of stiff objects running around clipping other mechs, collisions made this game feel like the mechs were solid things, that interacted with eachother like in the real world.

It's on the cards, but they are cleaning up movement code for mechs 1st

The first phase of this as mentioned is the re-factor of the net movement code which is already a ways along and we’re looking forward to seeing the new improved version internally soon. From here our goal is to correctly handle basic rigid body collisions (knocking over trees/lampposts) and then when we are happy the core movement code is now solid re-visit weapon firing (again building upon the newly solidified core)

it then goes on to mention reintroducing full collisions

Ah, would love to see the day I could curbstomp a Commando with an Atlas or Dragon again. ^_^

As a dedicated Light pilot, I am looking forward to collisions being back.I just hope that the concept of charging damage gets applied..... I hate it when a friendly pushes past me, and I see my armor flash and turn yellow, and if they are big enough, it doesn't seem to do anything to them.

Which is my biggest issue with collision..... start of mission, and heavy or assault mechs running over their own lights to charge in.... especially when the light pilot is trying to get the whole battle plan.

When they bring it back, I hope they keep you in the cockpit - the switch the 3rd person is just jarring.

Not entirely sure its a good idea yet as last night there was a massive switch to Atlases and Heavies - no surprise really with the netcode changes! A couple of fights my Dragon was the lightest thing on the field which was plain weird I'm not sure giving people yet another reason not to pilot lights and mediums at the moment is a good idea.

Collisions will be nice to have again, instead of rubber banding around when you connect with a mech. But I don't think it's going to be what everyone suspects with knockdown being around again. Based off a Dev (Matthew Craig) quote from here (the same one someone linked above), it sounds like knockdown is not coming back. At first he starts off by saying collision was temporarily removed until they could do it justice, but then he goes on to say:

Quote

”Finally we will re-introduce Mech collisions in a hopefully much improved state (for those who saw it in closed beta that means no teleporting snapping or knocked down Mechs and proper damages being dealt for all Mech types). We are aiming to release all this work in phases to the community as it progresses.”

So it sounds like collisions and knockdowns are two separate things to them, and only proper bare collision is coming back and not knockdown. Meh. I miss terrible light pilots falling everywhere, tho better netcode helps take the sting away.

As a light, I don't mind knockdown.... as long as it applies correctly.
That should include taking large amounts of damage, as on the tabletop, where taking 20 or more damage is a piloting roll....it should be more than 20, and maybe based on tonnage, but yeah, bring knock down back.
Or receiving a charge....etc.

It would give us something to do with exp (buy better levels of piloting, each of which reduces the chance of falling).....

I sincerely hope collisions come back. As a Jenner pilot through most of beta, it was a hilariously easy to abuse mechanic to give my teammates easy alphas on disabled mechs.

Good light pilots don't get knocked down, great light pilots take someone down with them when it's tactically imperative.

they have already said that collisions will be back in, however other things are currently higher priority (such as community warfare) so expect to see those first

it's not just a case of switching the collisions back on, they need to totally re-write the collision code because it was also bugged in and of itself

in the last ask to devs 30 they said that collisions will be back in, but I think we'll have to wait a fair amount of months for that.

TBH I don't mind collisions not being back soon with the netcode mostly fixed.

I wanted them back as a way to counter light mechs since I wrongfully assumed the netcode would take much, much longer to fix.

Just for the record, they haven't actually changed the netcode yet. The change we are noticing was a bug in the way the Cryengine handles network transmissions, not PGI's actual code. Apparently it was holding back packets which resulted in the rubberbanding we were seeing. When the packet was finally sent the mech was actually further along in the timeline making it jump around a bit. Either way, glad that part is fixed. The code can only get better from here on.

When they do put collision back in I hope they do a bit of adjustment to it were mechs only get knocked down by mechs of the same weight class or greater. This way "Jenner tackling" as it was called is no longer a problem. For those who were not around when knockdown was in, Jenner Tackling was when you could take a light mech, mostly a Jenner at that time, and use it to ram and knockdown mediums and some times heavies. Hell I have seen Jenners knock down an Atlas a couple of times.
And while we are on the subject of knockdown, giving the AC/20 a % to knockdown a mech would be a great buff to the most powerful but at the same time, biggest, heavy, lowest ammo count, and shortest range weapon in the game. I still remember being knocked down in front of mechs with an AC/20. It never ended well.

Why are people saying the netcode is any different than before?
