I so much wanted that....but when I put that config folder to make my user.cfg work, the game starts to crash out of nowhere almost every game. Guess I must endure that (/sarcasm)lovely(/sarcasm) depth of field.

In the game options, push the Post Processing slider all the way to the left. No custom config needed.

I use thermal to spot enemies but rarely stay in it. Night I do use nightvision with little problem. Just the way I play I guess as used to doing more normal FPS games where glaring red/orange heat patterns aren't usual!

Problem is that post processing includes more than just the depth of field, and *most* of the eye candy in this game is actually pretty good. The custom config is still needed if you want to turn off *only* the stupid DoF.

how are you at a disadvantage most people do not use thermal unless it's for a quick second for scouting my suggestion is either turn off post processing or suck it up

I use IR so much more to find the enemy hiding under ECM bubble.

Thermals are a useful tool but if you live in the thermal you're crutching yourself as a pilot. Part of it is a perception (lol perception) that you NEED it. It's not heroin man, you can put it down. Use your MK1s so that thermals are a gravy to your regular senses, don't think of it as your MK1s operating as your crappy backup system when thermal fails you.

You should be able to eyeball targets even to outside the targeting distance unless your game image itself is sketchy. Use thermals to quickscan, verify and snipe, but you don't need to have it engaged constantly. Be careful that you don't pop your own in a furball while sniping at range; thermal says MASS OF WARM STUFF not TWO MECHS ONE FRIENDLY; you can't always tell who's in front of whom.

That being said, I generally prefer thermals to NV when I need a vision enhancer. >_______>

It is totally just you. I barely use IR because....I have eyes? I only use heat vision for long range sniping outside sensor range or 500 meters plus.

On River city night I use night vision.

If you dont like to use IR, dont use it.

When spectating I sometime see some people using IR vision in spite of comon sense.

If the map has plumes of hot smoke that are obscuring your ennemy with heat, and you can't even see where you are going because everything else is pitch black, MAYBE it's time to switch back to Normal vision (or Night Vision in Night City)?

Just a thought... kinda tired of seeing teammates getting torn to pieces by a giant white- hot smoke mass in front of them while they are shooting in a vague mist hitting nothing and their retreat is blocked by a building they could not see.

I toggle thermal for that first 'spike' to highlight far away enemies for me, then turn it off again to pick them out visually for identification if they're in an ECM bubble or something.

Rarely do I find myself leaving thermal on though, even on the night maps. It's nice once you have something to shoot at, but lightamp is much better for just moving around the map.

If you find that leaving thermal on full time benefits you, you're probably a camping, sniping, or LRMing scrublet.

There is no need to use IR in this game ever. With good settings and decent GFX hardware, every map can be played very well without it. Night vision is optional in RC night, I use it most of the time.

If someone actually REQUIRES NV to play the game, they may want to have their eyes checked.

I have to think that a lot of the folks who are saying, "You don't need thermal vision much at all!" are the same folks I'm headshotting with PPC's while they are seemingly oblivious to my presence.

I mean, sure, you can kind of see mechs at range without thermal vision, but at long range thermal optics make it infinitely easier to identify targets. I'm not sure how anyone could suggest otherwise.
