All mechs, all the time. Why? Because I pilot a light mech, and when you run across another light with streaks and ECM, you are screwed if you don't have ECM. Even if you don't use SSRM or LRM, when you have ECM and run into someone who does use those, you deny them a portion of their firepower, maybe even a very significant portion. At the moment, because I think it is unethical (read: dishonorable) to use that broken combination, I will use streaks or ECM but not both. Two of my friends and I did an ECM light mech run with no streaks, just to pick on pilots running that broken combo. We specifically separated them from their group, and wrecked every ECM+SSRM combo light mech on the field one at a time with a very high success rate. Proof that he who has more ECM wins (or that I am an [censored], take your pick).

ecm didn't make these variants the best either. they already were.

I think the COM-2D is the worst variant of all of the commandos, if the other ravens had the same high engine cap as the 3L, the 3L would not be the best raven variant, the 2X would be. But as it stands, I agree.

It's not clear whether the second question is a follow on from the first. Is the premise that ECM is available for every chassis still true in the context of the second question?

Don't change how ECM works, just make it weigh 4-5 tonnes/take up 4-5 critical slots or so. Now THAT will make people consider whether it's worthwhile.
