how do these work? is there a set interval (maybe every 50 rating?) where you get another free enginesink? someone please explain.

Every engine size that is divisible by 25, up to 250 adds another permanent heatsink. The ones that are above add extra slots to the engine for heatsinks, which you must install yourself.
If you have double heat sinks, it is confirmed that the up to 10 in the engine are in fact double the value of single heat sinks.
Does anyone know if the added heatsinks to the engine are counted like engine heatsinks or as normal added heatsinks?

You don't get a "free" heatsink.
An engine can _HOLD_ 1 Heat sink for every 25 rating (not tons sorry)
Every mech must have at least 10 heat sinks
If your engine is Less than a 250 you have to mount any heat sinks that don't fit somewhere else in the mech. Note that engine tonnage is reduced to account for the heat sink being required. So you don't pay any real tonnage for placing the heatsink.
If your engine is a 275 or higher, you can mount extra heat sinks in the engine. These DO take tonnage but do not take critical locations in other locations of the mech. (Great way to fit in extra DHS's.)

so if i have a 300 rated engine and i bought a 330, i'd get an extra enginesink is what you are saying? i just want to fill the rest of my tonnage limit, because with endo and DHS i literally run out of slots on my atlas before i run out of tons, it's ridiculous.

yes, if you get a 330 you get another slot that doesn't take up crit space.

The number of heatsinks an engine can hold is listed here: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...#module_engines

With DHS, the first 10 heatsinks inside the engine count at 2.0. All additional DHS (including ones inside the engine) count at 1.4 after that. With SHS, they all count as 1.0.
